Jumping Ahead Full Circle
Cecil Ashby spent his youth on the slopes, and now he returns as often as possible.
Cecil and his staff
Cecil Ashby grew up in Westchester, PA and was there until he left for college at
West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. He then graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
“I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with my life, and I was an average skier and I had raced for the WVU Ski Team, so I decided to move out west, to Utah, to go skiing in the Salt Lake City area. I had met this guy in West Virginia who was also going to Utah and so we convoyed to Utah and rented this 2-bedroom place, and then had all these other ski bums live with us,” Cecil laughed. “From 1988-91 I worked in restaurants and also had a photography business. I was just doing jobs where I could keep skiing; I was just trying to support my skiing habit. I skied all day and I worked at night.”
Cecil has an adventurous spirit and when there wasn’t snow, he lived in Alaska in a tent for 3 months and worked as a deck hand on a boat that went out on the ocean every day off the Alaska coast.
However, Cecil had a diving accident when he was at school in West Virginia and hurt his neck. After being in pain for several years, he went to his first chiropractor, which helped him, so he decided to become a chiropractor! He moved to Marietta GA, went to Life Chiropractic College, and graduated from there in 1996.
He had his first chiropractic practice in Georgia for a couple of years, and then moved to Florida in 1999, and has been here since then. He first moved to Orlando and worked with a chiropractor there for 2 years, then he bought a practice in Flagler Beach. He sold that practice in 2008 and opened the Ormond Beach practice that same year.
His local business is unique in that you can walk in and generally wait less than 15 minutes. He also does not advocate that it is a lifelong commitment and does not have long, unnecessary treatment plans. His focus is providing relief for neck and back pain and with that, he can do short-term care with the goal to get people out of pain with more hope of not having chronic problems. He gets referrals from medical doctors and he works with them as well as most insurance companies.
Cecil has been married since 1997 to Marie, also a chiropractor. They have 3 children. Their oldest daughter is an event planner, their son is in college at UCF for engineering, and their youngest daughter is close to finishing high school.
After years of pursuing business and family, Cecil had put skiing on the back burner until a few years ago when he returned to the slopes. “Everything came back,” he said. “Muscle memory.” Now he tries to fit in as many trips as life allows. No longer a ski bum, Cecil is a true ski fan.
