The Erickson Family!
A Snapshot of Life in Frisco's Starwood Neighborhood
The Erickson family—LJ, Wendy, and their three children, Mitchell, Maggie, and Mack—are well-known residents of the vibrant Starwood neighborhood in Frisco, Texas. Having moved to the area in May 2021, the family has quickly integrated into the community, building lasting connections while maintaining a strong bond to their roots in Texas. Here's a closer look at the Ericksons, their story, and what makes them such a dynamic part of their neighborhood.
LJ and Wendy Erickson have deep Texas ties. Both were born and raised in the Dallas-Fort Worth area—LJ in Richardson, Texas, and Wendy in Shreveport, Louisiana, before moving to Richardson in 1990. Their love story began in high school when they attended Berkner High School in Richardson, where they graduated in 1992. They reconnected years later, and after a memorable date where LJ asked Wendy out while she was a lifeguard at their neighborhood pool, their relationship blossomed. Now, they celebrate nearly 28 years of marriage.
The Ericksons' journey in Frisco began with a 14-year stay in the Stonebriar Park neighborhood, where they raised their family before moving to Starwood in 2021. The family’s decision to relocate was driven by a desire for a fresh start in a community that offered a more spacious, peaceful environment while remaining close to the conveniences of city life.
Both Wendy and LJ are Baylor University alumni. Wendy earned a BBA in Marketing, while LJ graduated with a BBA in Real Estate, both from the Hankamer School of Business. Their strong ties to Baylor University continue today, as their son Mitchell, a sophomore, is currently studying Entrepreneurship at Baylor.
Professionally, LJ brings over 27 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry. He is a partner at Duggan Realty Advisors, LLC, where he works on mixed-use developments like Frisco Corners Shopping Center and the upcoming Windrose Tower, a luxury high-rise residential building in Plano's Legacy West district. Wendy, after a successful career in pharmaceutical sales with AstraZeneca, retired to focus on family, dedicating her time to community service and family activities.
The Erickson children—Mitchell (20), Maggie (16), and Mack (10)—are actively involved in a range of educational and extracurricular activities. Mitchell, a sophomore at Baylor, is a member of the Baylor Wakeboarding Team and has a passion for entrepreneurship. Maggie, a sophomore at Frisco High School, is a JV cheerleader and volunteers with the National Charity League (NCL), a mother-daughter philanthropic organization. Mack, a fifth grader at Spears Elementary, is active in sports, playing for the FFL Bears football team, participating in basketball with D1 Academy, and enjoying soccer and flag football with his school friends.
While the Ericksons do not have pets, they maintain an active and busy household, with each family member bringing their own talents and interests to the mix. Mitchell is known for his impressive wakeboarding tricks, Maggie enjoys shopping and getting together with friends at local nail salons, and Mack keeps everyone on their toes with his energetic sports activities.
In addition to their personal interests, the Erickson family is committed to contributing to the community. Wendy and Maggie are involved in NCL, where they volunteer for various causes such as Miracle League, the National Breast Cancer Foundation, and Feed My Starving Children. Maggie even earned the prestigious Presidential Service Award for completing over 50 hours of volunteer work in one academic year.
LJ and his father also bring a unique contribution to the community, traveling across the country to participate in Father/Son tennis tournaments. In 2023, they finished ranked #4 in the nation and had the honor of competing in the National Finals in New York City for the Grass Court Father-Son Championships.
As a family, the Ericksons are always looking for ways to get involved and give back. Whether it's through volunteering or attending community events, like the neighborhood’s Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, they actively participate in fostering a sense of community spirit in Starwood.
The Ericksons celebrate holidays and special occasions with a mix of family traditions and local experiences. The holidays are spent with their extended family, many of whom live nearby, making it easy for the kids to connect with their cousins. A highlight of the season is attending the Christmas Eve church service at Hope Fellowship, followed by a festive dinner at Mi Cocina at The Star with Wendy’s family. The Ericksons also enjoy an annual family vacation to Cabo San Lucas, where they soak up the sun, as well as a trip to BlueJack National in Houston, a Tiger Woods-designed country club where the entire family can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities.
Locally, the Ericksons have their favorite spots, from dining at TruFire and La Hacienda to shopping at Legacy West and Highland Park Shopping Village. Maggie is particularly fond of shopping at Paper Affair and The Style Concierge at Shops at Starwood, while Mitchell enjoys sushi at Kotta and Sushi Marquee.
One of the Ericksons’ favorite family memories in Starwood was when Mack and his friends set up a lemonade stand at the entrance of their neighborhood. The experience was a big hit, with Mack thrilled by the generosity of neighbors and the tips they received. It’s moments like these that remind the Ericksons of the tight-knit, family-friendly atmosphere of their community.
The family is also passionate about the sense of safety and camaraderie in the gated community, where kids can freely ride their bikes and play outside. As Wendy explains, it’s convenient and comforting that many of their children’s friends live nearby, allowing for spontaneous get-togethers.
The Erickson family is a great example of the spirit that makes the Starwood neighborhood special. With a deep commitment to family, community, and a healthy balance of work and play, the Ericksons have embraced life in Frisco. Whether it's supporting their children's extracurricular activities, volunteering in the community, or simply enjoying the neighborhood’s amenities, they continue to build a legacy of involvement and warmth, making Starwood not just a place to live, but a place to thrive.
