The Baier Family: Finding Friendship and Joy in Starwood

Scott and Ashley Baier have found their perfect home in Frisco’s Starwood neighborhood, where family, friendship, and community spirit thrive. Scott serves as Executive Director of Medical Strategy at Vaniam Group, where he has worked for nearly eight years. Ashley, a former elementary school teacher, now enjoys being a stay-at-home mom to their two children, Harper and Carson. She is actively involved in the community, volunteering on the PTA Board at Spears Elementary and helping with neighborhood events.

Harper, age seven, is a creative and energetic second grader at Spears Elementary who loves soccer, cheering for the Frisco Football League (Go Saints!), and creating art projects. She dreams of becoming a scientist, artist, or soccer star one day. Carson, age five, attends St. Philips Preschool and loves reading, building with blocks and Legos, and playing with his preschool friends. He is an imaginative little boy who says he wants to be an engineer, architect, or race car driver when he grows up.

The Baiers have lived in Starwood for three years but are originally from Nebraska. Scott and Ashley met while attending the University of Nebraska, where they lived in the same dorm and became best friends before dating. Scott earned his bachelor’s degree in nutrition, Exercise, and Health Science and later completed his Doctoral degree in Molecular Nutrition. Ashley received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and went on to earn a master’s degree in education. After completing graduate school, Scott began his postdoctoral education at UT Southwestern in Dallas, while Ashley taught in Dallas and later in McKinney ISD. As their family grew, they sought a larger home and a neighborhood that offered a strong sense of community and found exactly that in Starwood.

In addition to their professional and family lives, the Baiers share a passion for staying active. Both are runners who have completed half marathons and marathons in the past, and they still enjoy outdoor activities like walking, biking, and exploring with the kids. Their family dog, Oliver, is a beloved part of the crew. He enjoys playing fetch, going for walks, and keeping a close eye on the neighborhood especially when mail trucks come by.
Holidays are a time for connection and tradition for the Baiers. They often travel back to Nebraska for Thanksgiving or Christmas to spend time with extended family and enjoy a taste of snowy weather. Locally, they love attending the festive holiday events throughout the DFW area, especially Starwood’s annual Christmas Light Up and the Christmas light trolley rides that delight their children every year.

Around Frisco, the family enjoys visiting favorite local spots like Kona Coffee and Star Donuts, and dining at Palio’s and Gallo Nero for Italian fare. They also frequent The Star, where the kids love eating at Mi Cocina, running on the football field, and playing at the new Kaleidoscope Park.

Community involvement is an important part of the Baiers’ life in Starwood. In their Baier’s Crossing village, they regularly participate in social gatherings such as Cinco de Mayo celebrations, Halloween events, and the annual Christmas progressive dinner. They are also enthusiastic supporters of neighborhood philanthropic efforts, including last summer’s lemonade stand organized for the Kerr County flood relief effort.

When reflecting on their favorite neighborhood memories, the Baiers highlight moments that perfectly capture the warmth and camaraderie of Starwood life—trick-or-treating with friends, summer pool parties, sledding down their cul-de-sac hill after a rare Texas snowstorm, and seeing neighbors come together for good causes.

For Scott, Ashley, Harper, and Carson, Starwood is more than just a place to live, it is a community filled with friendship, fun, and shared purpose. As Ashley puts it best, “We feel so blessed to live in Starwood and to have met some of the most amazing families throughout this neighborhood.”
