Meet Zena. Zena is an 8 year old female mixed breed of Lab, Doberman and Golden Retriever. She lives with the McCormick family and her sisters, Bella and Izzie who previously were featured in the magazine! Zena is a foster from DFW Lab Retriever Rescue Club and was the last pup to get fostered out of her litter. She was originally supposed to go with another family but they changed their minds at the last minute and Lauren picked her up to keep overnight. That overnight stay turned into a forever home. 

Zena’s name was given through the rescue group and she had learned it pretty quickly so the family ended up keeping it. Lauren says, “It fits her and I feel she is like a warrior princess who has survived a traumatic start in life to flourish.” Zena was a bit shy at first but as time went on, she became super friendly and never leaves Lauren’s side. She is constantly reminding Lauren to give her attention whether she is watching tv on the sofa or working on the computer. 

Zena’s silly habits keep the family smiling. When someone walks in through the garage door, she sits frozen on the couch wide eyed and silent. Everyone who experiences it for the first time always has a good laugh. One of Zena’s favorite activities is walking. It gives her many opportunities to nibble on leaves and grab acorns throughout the walk. Not to mention, she is also spoiled. She always gets her bowl first during feeding and never walks away without some.

Zena is loving, loyal, and gets along with all the dogs in the home, including new foster pups. Despite everything she has been through, she is the glue that holds the pack together and brings constant comfort and joy to the McCormick family.
