Donuts, Deals & Driveway Stories

The annual Persimmon Ridge Yard Sale in May brought more than bargains to the neighborhood—it brought neighbors together. As residents filled driveways with furniture, décor, toys, and hidden treasures, Stroll Persimmon Ridge publisher Liz Hack spent the morning delivering three dozen donuts around the community and collecting something even sweeter: stories.
From early morning walkers with dogs in tow to neighbors cruising the streets by golf cart mapping out their next stop, the neighborhood was buzzing with activity. One resident proudly shared that she had already made nearly $300 before lunchtime. For the Howards, the sale turned into a friendly marital competition: whoever sold the most items earned a dinner date paid for by the other spouse.
At the Metcalf home, the sale became a true family affair, with adult children and grandchildren helping organize tables, greet shoppers, and keep things moving throughout the day.
By the end of the morning, every donut had been handed out, but the real takeaway was the reminder that events like the neighborhood yard sale are about much more than clearing clutter—they’re about connection.
