From Coastlines to Quiet Woods: Margy’s Path to Persimmon Ridge

Discover how a love of learning, family, and nature led Margy to her serene Kentucky home.

Nestled on Whispering Pines Circle, Margy has called Persimmon Ridge home for four years this March. Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Margy moved to Long Beach, Indiana, at the age of five, where she grew up just a block from Lake Michigan. Later, she spent 40 years in teaching—a career that spanned an incredible 39 years and left a lasting impact on her students and community.

Margy’s academic journey took her to Indiana State University for her undergraduate degree, followed by two master’s degrees earned at Purdue and Northern Illinois University. Her first teaching job after college was in Madison, IN where she taught 1st grade for a few years. The rest of her teaching career was in Naperville, IL teaching 4th and 5th grade. Though retired, her passion for learning and teaching remains evident in how she engages with her family, hobbies, and travels.

A proud “Nana” to four grandchildren, Margy’s family is spread across the Midwest. Her son Jeremy lives in the Lake Forest neighborhood in Louisville with his wife Sarah and their two children, Olivia (4) and Blake (10 months). They are the reason Margy moved to Louisville after she retired from teaching. She looks forward to watching her two grandbabies every Wednesday. “They are such a joy,” Margy added. Her daughter Amy resides in Michigan with her husband Chris and their daughters, Everly (6) and Eliza (3). Interestingly, Margy’s family has a fascinating trend—between her kids and their cousins, there were 12 girls born in a row before the arrival of a boy!

Travel is one of Margy’s great passions. She’s explored destinations ranging from the Galapagos Islands and Iceland to the Danube River and numerous National Parks out west. One particularly unforgettable memory is from Yellowstone National Park when a bison approached her while she was sitting by the river—a moment that truly brought the park’s famous warnings to life!

When she’s not traveling, Margy enjoys daily walks, reading, sewing, and socializing. She loves cooking seafood for family dinners and dining out at favorite spots like Bonefish, Stoney River, and Grassa Gramma. Her love for animals runs deep, having grown up with dogs and horses, though she’s been without pets for four years.

Living in Persimmon Ridge has been a dream come true for Margy. She cherishes the quiet beauty of the neighborhood, the safety it offers, and the friendly community. Watching deer and birds from her deck is a daily joy.

Now happily embracing a new chapter after 50 years in a previous relationship, Margy is thriving in this peaceful setting. With her rich family history—including a great-great-uncle who tragically went down with the Titanic—and her vibrant spirit, Margy is a cherished neighbor who adds her unique story to the tapestry of Persimmon Ridge.
