Life According to Coco Channel

In Persimmon Ridge, Coco the English Bulldog has quietly established herself as a bit of a household icon. At seven years old, she has a routine she likes, a personality that keeps things interesting, and a way of making Jim and Kim Vaughn’s home feel anything but empty.

Coco was born in Tampa, Florida in 2018, and even her beginnings have a unique story. Her breeder, originally from Russia, raised Bulldogs while her husband served in the United States military. Coco’s mother was also born in Russia and later DNA tested to become American Kennel Club registered, giving Coco a background that is just as distinctive as her personality.

For Kim, bringing Coco home was something she had been looking forward to for years. She first fell in love with the breed after seeing a Bulldog puppy in the early 2000s, and the idea stuck. When her youngest child headed off to college, that long held wish finally became reality. Coco arrived at just the right time, bringing energy, companionship, and a steady presence to a new season of life.

Her name came with her, thanks to a moment from her breeder’s family. An autistic child called her Coco Channel, and Kim knew right away it fit. Coco has a bit of a diva side, and she carries it well.

Day to day life with Coco is full of small moments that make her memorable. She loves her Kong Wubba and any ball she can find, even if a rear leg injury means she cannot run after them the way she once did. She still joins in, just on her own terms. When it is time to rest, Coco is very particular. She sleeps on a raised bed in the bedroom, and her blanket needs to be freshly cleaned and folded just right. If it is not, she will gently let you know until it is fixed.

She also has a habit of sitting on the couch like a person, one paw resting on the arm, watching television with surprising focus. Bright colors and movement tend to keep her attention the longest.

More than anything, Coco has been a steady and loving companion. She is friendly with everyone she meets and has helped fill the quieter moments at home in a meaningful way. Bulldogs can require extra care, from daily cleaning to keeping an eye on common health concerns, but as the Vaughns would tell you, it is well worth it. Coco’s presence is a daily reminder that the little routines, the quirks, and the companionship are often what make a house feel like home.
