Hank: Keeping Watch, One Golf Cart Ride at a Time

Pet's Name: Hank, his formal name is Henry August

Type of animal/breed: Old English Sheepdog/poodle mix aka sheepadoodle

Pets age: He’ll be 6 in June

When & where did you adopt your pet?
We adopted Hank when he was 3 months old from a breeder in Indiana (He does not know he was adopted).

What made you decide to make your home your pets forever home?
Our human children grew up and left us. We had a Great Dane that died suddenly of cancer. Initially, I thought I would never get another dog but about a year later we signed a waiting list. He was one of 11. John picked him because of his multi colors and I liked his Harry Potter lightning bolt hair line.

How did your pet get his/her name?
John picked Hank for Hank Williams Jr. I picked his formal name because everyone knows your mom uses your full name when you’re in trouble. He also answers to Hank Doodle, Mr Doodles, Hanky Panky, Hanky Panks, Hanky Doodle Dandy, Chief, and Papi.

Does your pet have any favorite toys, places to sleep, visit etc?
Hank would never leave the yard or allow himself to be kidnapped unless there is a golf cart involved. If that is the case, He would abandon me and leave me for dead if he gets to go for a ride. And that seating arrangement is up front, preferably between 2 people but he is willing to be a shot gun, more of passenger princess if I’m being honest.

Tell us something quirky or funny that your pet does:
Other than being addicted to golf cart rides, he brings every guest a toy. This isn’t just any toy. He waits to see who has arrived, picks one from his toy box after deciding what is the best and then brings it forth. You are to look, maybe say something about how amazing it is but do not try to take it. That’s not how this works. Ever.

How has having your pet made your life better?
He’s a pretty cute guy and loving him is easy. He has helped fill the void the human children left when they grew up.  To say he is spoiled is an understatement.  We have a daily routine and it involves tossing ball, walks and of course the nightly neighborhood perimeter check in his cart. That keeps us busy and entertained.

Is there anything else you want to tell the neighbors about your pet?
If you see him in the yard he is going to bark and bounce and embarrass the whole family. Just say “Hi Hank”.  He is much more afraid of you than you are of him.
