*****FULL DECK*****
Inspired by Benissimo’s 25-year aged balsamic vinegar found at the North Conway Olive Oil Co. in the White Mountains, Stroll Sponsor and Food Enthusiast Bethany Wheaton, of Plymouth Upholstery,  showcases fresh strawberries from her annual trip to Lexington’s Wilson Farm, entertaining friends and family alike with this go-to dessert from the Barefoot Contessa, Ina Garten.

Strawberries with Balsamic Vinegar

INGREDIENTS
yields about 8 servings - size up or down to suit your party size - since the dessert is best enjoyed right away!

  • 4 pints (8 cups) fresh strawberries, sliced thick
  • 5 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 pints vanilla ice cream for serving
  • Freshly grated lemon zest, for serving

DIRECTIONS
  1. Thirty minutes to an hour before serving, combine the strawberries, balsamic vinegar, sugar, and pepper in a bowl. Set aside at room temperature.
  2. Place a serving of the strawberries in a bowl with a scoop of ice cream on top and dust lightly with lemon zest.

PRO TIP:
Bethany loves Häagen-Dazs® but we think STUZZi's vanilla gelato would be decadent!

FUN FACT:
June 14th is National Strawberry Shortcake Day, landing at the peak of strawberry season, making the start of summer even sweeter! We like to kick it off by picking fresh berries locally at Sauchuk Farm in Plympton. The farmstand doesn't officially open until July 1, but strawberries are ready for plucking this month: sauchukfarm.com
