Down the Cape and Up to Boston: Friends Enjoy Getting Out and About

A

A group of residents from Pinehills recently had the opportunity to visit and tour long time resident Kate Schuh’s daughter’s bagel bakery and shop in Falmouth, a worthy stop on its own over the holidays with a spectacular display on the town's village green within Falmouth's historic district.

The Making of a Bagel: A Labor of Love

After touring the bakery and meeting the team at Cape Cod Bagel Lori Raleigh noted, “we have a whole new appreciation of what is involved in the making of a bagel—it truly is a labor of love”.

Pinehills resident Pam Mitchell shared her thoughts, as well: “I had no idea how much was involved in making a bagel! Our tour was most enlightening….it was wonderful to meet owner Jamie Schuh and so great to see the process first hand from the start and the making of the dough—to the finish! And oh my, the bagels are absolutely delicious."

Bonding over Bagels

It was heartwarming to learn more about what was involved in Jamie’s launching the business during a very challenging time with the support of her family.

Owner Jamie Schuh’s appreciation for the community for all of their support is more than evident as well. Her team are all local residents and Jamie contributes to many local philanthropic causes. She notes “how very important she feels it is to be part of and to give back and support the community."

The Sampling of the bagels: And the verdict

According to longtime Pinehills resident Sally Pezanko, “they have to be the best bagels I have ever had—there is just something so special about them…maybe it is “proprietary recipe” or perhaps all of the TLC involved in making the bagels at the family owned and operated Cape Cod Bagel factory.”

And not to forget the incredible specialty cream cheeses, including  chive & scallion, bacon chive and scallion, veggie, Jalapeno, strawberry cheesecake, olive and blueberry, which are all made on site to go with 15 different bagel varieties.

Bagels and More!

Cape Cod Bagel has many specialty breakfast and luncheon sandwiches and delicious muffins as well.

If you plan to be in Falmouth over the holiday season….a stop at Cape Cod Bagel promises to be memorable. Cape Cod Bagel is not only a favorite among locals in Falmouth it is a distributer of bagels to many other venues including on the Vineyard as well.

Our Pinehills book club recently ventured into Boston via the train from Kingston to South Station for our annual "outing". In addition to a Beacon Hill House Tour, a highlight of our visit was being there for the inaugural day of the launch of the Titanic exhibit in Boston!

We were welcomed to the exhibit with a glass of champagne and a "boarding pass" to the White Star line, with the name of an actual passenger on the Titanic, so we were were able to follow their journey on the Titanic.

It is a very moving exhibit and concludes with folks pulling up the name of the "passenger" that they have been following during the exhibit to learn their "fate": sadly for some of us, our passengers had died but for others we were excited to learn that they had survived.

The wonderful titanic exhibit goes through January, then over the first weekend in February, 2025.
