DJ's Plumbing & Mechanical

Combining technical expertise with the personal service of a local business.

When something goes wrong with your plumbing or HVAC system, you want more than a technician. You want someone who can diagnose the problem, explain the solution, and fix it correctly the first time.
That's exactly the reputation DJ Newell has built over the past 25 years in the trades and 13 years as owner of DJ's Plumbing & Mechanical, a trusted residential and commercial plumbing and HVAC company serving Albuquerque and the surrounding communities.
For DJ, solving problems has always come naturally.
Long before owning his own company, he was the person who wanted to understand how things worked. At age 20, while working as a carpet cleaner, he found himself constantly repairing a prototype machine that frequently broke down. Before long, he realized he enjoyed troubleshooting and fixing equipment just as much as operating it. That experience eventually led him into the plumbing trade, where he discovered both a talent and a passion for problem solving.
Today, that same curiosity and hands on approach continue to set him apart.
With decades of field experience, DJ has developed a reputation for tackling everything from routine maintenance to complex plumbing and mechanical challenges. Rather than simply treating symptoms, he focuses on understanding how systems work and identifying long term solutions.
"What sets my business apart is the combination of deep hands on experience, problem solving ability, and a customer first mindset that's rooted in real world work," DJ says. "Customers aren't just jobs. They're people I take care of."
That philosophy has earned the trust of homeowners and businesses throughout the region. Whether it's a plumbing emergency, HVAC issue, preventative maintenance, or a system upgrade, DJ approaches every project with the same goal: provide honest recommendations, quality workmanship, and dependable service.
A New Mexico native and a former student of Manzano High School, DJ recently made Placitas home and quickly embraced the community. He was drawn to the area's beautiful scenery, slower pace of life, and welcoming atmosphere while remaining close to Albuquerque, where he was born and raised.
Family is also at the center of his life. He shares his home with his fiancée, Amber Hilton, a local business broker, along with Amber's mother, Jere, and two Great Pyrenees, Ozzy and Libby, who keep everyone in line. Their son, Silas, recently graduated from Trinidad State Community College and is continuing his education on both baseball and academic scholarships. Supporting Silas throughout his baseball journey has created some of the family's favorite memories.
When he's not working, DJ enjoys flying drones and model airplanes, exploring New Mexico's ghost towns and ancient ruins, and pursuing his newest interest: mycology. What began as a hobby has grown into a partnership with a mushroom farm, where he cultivates oyster, chestnut, and lion's mane mushrooms for local restaurants.
Giving back is another important part of DJ's story. He supports local food pantries, serves as an ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce, contributes to community organizations, and donates services to local nonprofits whenever possible. His faith guides much of that commitment to helping others.
When asked what advice he would give homeowners, DJ keeps it simple: don't wait until a small problem becomes a big one. Strange noises, slow drains, inconsistent water temperatures, rising utility bills, and weak water pressure can all be signs of larger issues developing behind the scenes. Addressing those concerns early often saves homeowners significant time, money, and stress.
At the end of the day, DJ credits his success to hard work, perseverance, and the support of his family. Those same values continue to guide the way he runs his business today.
For Placitas residents looking for a trusted plumbing and HVAC professional, DJ Newell isn't just a service provider. He's a neighbor who takes pride in helping people solve problems and keep their homes running smoothly.
