“The law is the law. It’s complicated and often hard to understand. When it comes down to it, working with an attorney who has experience and a proven track record makes all the difference. You want someone on your side who understands the law and has the experience needed to help you through the process. I have worked on all sides of the law, and I have the experience you need to win,” said Michael (Mike) Miller, attorney and owner of The Law Firm of Michael D. Miller.

Mike grew up in Cheyenne, the son of an Air Force airman. His family lived on a farm outside the city, and Mike’s formative years were spent with his three brothers playing and caring for the animals. Following high school, Mike enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served our country for the next 12 years. He then went to college on the GI bill and pursued a career in law enforcement.

“I always liked the idea of being a police officer,” he said. “I wanted to help keep the community safe and serve the people. I’m motivated to help, and that felt like a good way to do it.” Mike worked in the Denver area for over 20 years. In that time, he served as a member of the Motorcycle Traffic Unit, a Technical Accident Reconstructionist, a Patrol Sergeant, and a firearms and tactics instructor. He made countless DUI and criminal arrests and conducted hundreds of investigations.

As his role in policing sunsetted, a Denver prosecutor suggested that he go to law school. “Honestly, I never considered it,” Mike said with a laugh. “I didn’t know a thing about being a lawyer, and it kind of scared me, but the more I thought about it, the better the idea sounded. I wanted to still make an impact and help people. It felt like a natural progression for my career.”

Mike attended law school at the University of Wyoming and passed the Bar Exam in 2010. With an extensive background in law enforcement, Mike has used his real-world experience to build a successful law practice based on safeguarding his clients’ rights.

“Law is complex, and situations are never black and white. In this country, we believe people deserve the right to a fair trial with competent legal counsel. That is what I offer my clients – an attorney who will ensure their rights are protected and help defend the wrongly accused. With my background, I’m able to defend them from a place of knowledge and experience.”

The Law Firm of Michael D. Miller offers legal representation in DUI and criminal defense cases, family law, and divorce proceedings. Mike is also available to help with wills and power of attorney legacy protection. In his decades of experience, Mike has successfully counseled hundreds of criminal cases and DUIs and helped well over 200 people through divorce proceedings.

Mike offers a cool, collected, and competent legal representation style. “Everyone says they want a ‘bulldog’ in the courtroom, but you really don’t,” he detailed. “Those kinds of lawyers make the process so much more complex and heartbreaking. It’s so much better for everyone if you can come to a rational compromise that works for all. If you have a bulldog, you end up spending more time in court and more money on legal fees. I try hard to make sure we avoid big blowups, especially if there are kids involved. It’s so much better that way in the long run.”

Mike and his wife, Carolyn, are big animal lovers. They have two rescue dogs and two cats. After adopting their dogs from the Cheyenne Animal Shelter, Mike and Carolyn have become ardent supporters of the organization. They attend the themed Fur Ball every year and recently dressed as mobsters for this year’s event.
