GGG

What is GGG? It stands for Guys Golf Gang, a name I coined for this tight-knit group of golf buddies.

Just about every golf course, whether public, private, or semi-private, has its regular crew of players. The same goes for women, who often form close-knit groups of their own. This article spotlights a group of retired and semi-retired men who are members of Ptarmigan Country Club. In a future edition of Stroll magazine, I’ll also be highlighting a ladies’ group, the LGG, or Ladies Golf Gang.

On any given day, you might spot a group of guys teeing off at Ptarmigan that includes Kevin Cobaugh, Jay Day, Steve Siebenaler, Paul Tucker, David Levine, and Keith Harper. This could be a three-some or a four-some made up of any combination of this solid crew of competitors. Of course, when the round is over, the real question is—who earns the bragging rights with the lowest score, and who’s actually telling the truth about it? Maybe the answer lies in who picks up the tab for the group’s favorite post-round beverages. At the end of the day, it’s all for fun as these retired and semi-retired gents enjoy the company of each other.

Six of these Ptarmigan golfers shared with me their most recent professional careers before retiring.

Kevin Cobaugh spent his last 10 years as the General Manager of Spectrum Aquatics. Kevin retired in November 2024 at the age of 67. Kevin pointed out that when he was working full-time, he played about 45 rounds of golf for the entire year. This year, he has already recorded over 60 rounds of golf.  Retirement is treating Kevin just fine.

Jay Day is enjoying full-time retirement. Jay operated his own company, Pacific Riverside Technology, Inc. He functioned as the Chief Technical Officer. After 32 years in business and being the oldest of the group, at 71, Jay decided to move on to the next chapter of his life: retirement.

Paul Tucker, 62 years young, enjoyed a rewarding and impactful career as an electrical engineer. With 32 years of service, Paul worked for Hewlett-Packard for 12 years, five years for Agilent, 13 years for Avago, and two years for Broadcom. While playing golf is one of Paul’s favorite pastimes, he is also a member of a band called My Pet Fly. Paul is the drummer in the four-piece band that plays classic modern rock music.

Steve Siebenaler, at 62, retired in December 2023, having worked for 12 years as the sales and territorial manager for Gardner Distributing Company. The company’s business specializes in the sale of lawn, garden, and pet supplies.

David Levine had a very successful career in the agricultural business. He worked for 42 years in Greeley as the General Manager of Smithfield Foods, a national food distributor. Dave retired in January 2024, and now, at 62 years old, Levine is enjoying retirement playing golf on a regular basis with his golfing buddies at Ptarmigan.

Keith Harper is also retired. He previously served as the Director of Customer Care for all of North America at Pergo Flooring, retiring at the age of 50 in 2004. Now, 21 years later, at 71, Harper has taken on the rewarding role of stay-at-home dad to his children.

These six close-knit friends have each enjoyed successful careers and are now embracing retirement surrounded by their families and close friends. Their days are filled with quality family time and shared activities, golf being a favorite that keeps them young at heart. They often hit the course with their spouses and other family members. As neighbors in the Ptarmigan community, they make the most of their free time golfing and socializing together at the Ptarmigan Country Club.
