Nothing says “holiday” quite like cut-out sugar cookies decorated for the occasion! From Christmas cookies in festive red and green, to Valentine’s Day hearts frosted in pink and red, to bright orange Halloween cookies, these colorful treats make every celebration feel special.

I loved baking and decorating cut-out cookies with my children, but we often found that no one wanted to eat them after the first day; they hardened and became brittle, eventually crumbling before we could enjoy them all. That changed when a friend shared her special recipe for melt-in-your-mouth cut-out cookies that stay soft and delicious for days. I was in heaven!
The secret? A touch of sour cream, which makes these the most tender, delicious cut-out sugar cookies you’ll ever bake.

Blend together:
1 cup butter (softened)
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla

Add:
5 TBSP of sour cream mixed with 1 tsp. of baking soda. Add a dash of salt.

Slowly mix in 4 to 4 1/2 cups of flour.

Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to 1/2" thickness and cut into shapes.

Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees.

When cooled, frost with your own homemade frosting recipe or take a shortcut and frost with Betty Crocker cream cheese frosting.

These yummy cookies are guaranteed to satisfy every palate, young and old.  Store in an airtight container and enjoy!
