The Benedict family includes a unique and beloved member, Alvin the bearded dragon. Alvin, who is about 1.5 years old, has been part of their lives since he was a baby. The story behind his name is sweet—When Peri, the Benedict's daughter, was 5 years old she had to have a medical procedure done. For being brave, Peri was able to pick a prize. Peri really wanted a bearded dragon. We went to the pet store the same day after her procedures and she fell in love with a bearded dragon. Alvin, who is named after her favorite TV show- Alvin and the Chipmunks,  joined the family that same day. 

Alvin isn't just a pet; he’s a true companion. He has some particular tastes when it comes to food, enjoying hornworms, crickets, dubia roaches, kale, collard greens, and peppers. He’s also quite spoiled; Peri takes Alvin almost everywhere she goes, from the park and bike rides to shopping at PetSmart. He’s even been to Peri’s classroom! As a special treat, when the family goes through the Starbucks drive-thru, Alvin enjoys strawberries instead of a typical pup cup.

Through her bond with Alvin, Peri has found comfort and joy, especially as she navigates life with Celiac Disease, making Alvin a much-loved part of her healing journey.
