Xena: The Gentle Giant of the Geraci Family

A lovable Newfoundland who brings joy, mischief, and big-hearted charm to Red Tail.

The Geraci family, Kevin, Megan, and Camille, welcomed Xena into their lives seven years ago from Hampton Hills, Newfoundland, a reputable breeder in Pennsylvania. Drawn to the breed’s love of water and gentle, family-friendly nature, the Geracis knew a Newfoundland would be the perfect fit.

Xena has lived up to that expectation—whether she’s swimming in the river or lake, or calmly relaxing around the house. The family is even hoping Red Tail might consider an end-of-season “doggy dip” in the pool someday, a dream Xena would certainly approve of.

Her name has a fun origin as well: inspired by her long black coat, the family named her after Xena: Warrior Princess. True to her name, she has a few quirks of her own—most notably her habit of holding part of the leash in her mouth during walks, giving the impression that she’s the one leading her humans.

Xena’s personality is what the Geracis adore most. She’s playful and full of energy outside, wrestling in the yard, yet she’s content to unwind at night, curled up beside the couch or at the foot of the bed.

She also has quite the mischievous streak. The family once discovered an entire roll of Gouda cheese missing from the counter, only to find Xena sporting bits of cheese on her mouth a short time later. Another memorable moment came after a carpet-cleaning day, when Xena was supposed to stay out of the living room. While the family watched TV, a strange shadow appeared from the kitchen—Xena had climbed onto a dining chair and then up onto the kitchen table, proudly blocking the light.

Despite her size, Xena has developed the refined palate of a true diva. She’s been known to turn up her nose at plain food and now expects a little “something extra” added to her meals.

Xena brings joy, humor, and a whole lot of love to the Geraci household—an unforgettable presence in the Red Tail community.
