A Leap of Faith That Became Home
The Cantralls’ journey to Red Tail and the community they helped build
After spending 26 years in their Rocky River home, where they raised their children and built a lifetime of memories, Jim and Phyllis Cantrall knew it was time for a new chapter. While actively considering a move, good friends mentioned they were exploring a new golf community in Avon called Red Tail. Curious, the Cantralls decided to visit—and immediately felt a connection. The setting, the vision, and the opportunity to build something truly personal made an instant impression.
What stood out most was the variety of builders and the freedom to create a custom home. Rather than choosing from a set of standard designs, the Cantralls loved being involved in shaping the home of their dreams. When they moved in during the early 2000s, they were just the third house on their street. At the time, there was no golf course, no clubhouse, and no pool—only plans and promises. Still, moving to Red Tail felt like the perfect way to begin a new century.
Although Phyllis and Jim were not golfers, they were drawn to the community’s park-like atmosphere. Winding streets, mature trees, and a wide range of architectural styles gave the neighborhood a distinctive charm. In those early years, with only a handful of residents, the community felt like a group of pioneers who had taken a leap of faith together.
With few amenities in place, neighbors created their own sense of connection and fun. Progressive dinners, Bunco nights, and holiday celebrations for Christmas and Halloween quickly became traditions. These gatherings helped forge strong friendships and a social, welcoming environment that defined Red Tail long before the clubhouse doors ever opened.
As the community grew, so did the memories. Some of the Cantralls’ most cherished moments came years later, when they brought their grandchildren to the club. Visits with Santa, appearances by the Easter Bunny, and festive Halloween parties and hayrides became highlights that the children eagerly anticipated.
Looking back, the Cantralls describe their decision to move to Red Tail in just three words: “Best Decision Ever.” What began as a simple visit evolved into a lifelong home filled with friendship, family, and a true sense of community.
