Eagles Claim First-Ever State Volleyball Championship

Avon Volleyball Breaks Through Final Four, Wins State Championship in Gritty Finish

Avon High School volleyball reached the summit of Ohio high school athletics on November 9, 2025, capturing a long-awaited OHSAA state championship after years of coming up just short on the sport’s biggest stage.

The Eagles’ title run was defined by resilience, none more important than their semifinal victory over Magnificat, the only team to defeat Avon during the regular season. The win marked Avon’s long-anticipated breakthrough through the Final Four, erasing the memory of past postseason disappointments and setting the stage for a championship performance.

In the state final, adversity struck early when senior standout Bethany Sherwood was forced to leave the match with a leg injury. The loss of one of the team’s leaders could have derailed the Eagles, but instead it sparked a collective response. Star hitter and Red Tail resident London Stone stepped into the spotlight, delivering a dominant performance that steadied Avon and pushed them across the finish line.

Stone led the offense with timely kills and strong serve runs, while Avon’s defense tightened at the net and in the back row. The Eagles controlled momentum through disciplined play, effective communication, and composure in key moments, traits that had defined their season from the opening match.

When the final point was scored, emotion poured out onto the court as players embraced, celebrating a championship years in the making. The victory capped a remarkable season and coincided with Avon boys soccer’s state title the same day, making November 9, 2025, one of the most historic dates in school history.
