The Eagles had clinched a close win in overtime against the Brecksville Bees. Red Tail's very own Connor Britt scored the impossible goal, scoring just barely in the left corner of the post. The Eagles were going to their first championship.
Avon High School history was made on November 9, 2025, as the boys soccer team captured its first-ever OHSAA Division II State Championship with a dramatic 1–0 overtime victory over the Kings Mills Kings at Historic Crew Stadium.
The match was a defensive battle from the opening whistle, with both teams trading chances but unable to break through regulation. Avon’s back line and goalkeeper stood firm under pressure, while the Eagles’ offense continued to test the Kings Mills defense deep into the second half. After 80 scoreless minutes, the state title came down to overtime.
The moment of history arrived when senior Brock Harman delivered the decisive blow. Breaking free behind the defense, Harman calmly lifted a perfectly placed “chip” shot over the onrushing goalkeeper, sending the Avon sideline into celebration and sealing the championship. The goal not only clinched the title but also etched Harman’s name permanently into Avon athletics history.
The victory marked a milestone for the program, which had never before claimed a boys' soccer state championship. Players and coaches celebrated on the field as the final whistle confirmed the Eagles’ place atop Division II soccer in Ohio.
The day carried even greater significance for the school community, as Avon’s volleyball team also claimed a state championship, making it a rare and unforgettable double-title day for the Eagles. Together, the victories highlighted the strength of Avon athletics and capped off a season that will be remembered for generations.
A special shout-out to our very own Red Tail Soccer team members: Finn Petzinger, Andrew Mikes, and Cole Veverka.
