The Gorneys Next Door (And Across the Street... And Down the Block)
The Gorneys of Red Tail: A Family Tapestry Woven with Love, Laughter, and Legacy
The Gorney Gang
For the Gorney family, Red Tail is far more than just a place to live—it’s a lifestyle rooted in connection, tradition, and multi-generational closeness. What began with a single Zillow search on a quiet Christmas night has evolved into a vibrant family hub where love and laughter echo through cul-de-sacs, across fairways, and around the dinner table.
A Family Journey to Red Tail
The Gorneys’ introduction to Red Tail started somewhat serendipitously. On Christmas night in 2015, Ryan and Kara Gorney were sipping wine and browsing Zillow when they stumbled upon a unique and long-listed home in Red Tail. Intrigued, they reached out to their realtor and scheduled a showing. Although Kara was initially hesitant, multiple visits—some with Ryan’s dad, Jon—eventually led to a firm decision: this was home.
Despite needing significant repairs, the couple embraced the challenge, and nearly a decade (and countless projects) later, their home now stands as a labor of love. With their children—Samantha (16), Kate (14), and Jon (12)—growing up in Red Tail, they’ve also hit the "neighbor jackpot," living beside the welcoming Sinclairs and Sabos.
In 2020, the Gorney roots in Red Tail deepened when Ryan’s sister Kristin and her husband Ryan Kovesdy moved in—just two weeks after welcoming their second child, Madilyn. The appeal of a golf lifestyle (which parenting has since overtaken), the joy of cousin closeness, and community charm made the decision easy. Their growing family now includes Kameron (7), Madilyn (5), RJ (3), and baby Brady (6 months), and their cul-de-sac has become a hive of childhood adventure and happy hour gatherings.
In 2022, Jon and Nancy Gorney—patriarch and matriarch—completed the circle by building a home on St. Theresa. The draw? Simple: grandkids nearby, daily visits via bike and golf cart, and a neighborhood that celebrates family in every way. Jon enjoys golf (league TBD!), while Nancy treasures the spontaneous joy of grandchildren arriving unannounced, donuts or hugs in hand.
Adding to this family tapestry, Nancy’s sister, Pat Casgar, and her husband, Tim also call Red Tail home. With the Gorneys, Kovesdys, and Casgars all living within golf cart range, the bonds of family are only growing stronger.
Why Red Tail Works for the Gorneys
What makes Red Tail so appealing to three generations of one family? It’s a mix of beauty, safety, lifestyle, and, above all, proximity. Being able to jump on a golf cart and visit your parents, siblings, or cousins in minutes is a joy few families can claim. It’s also a community where wine nights, spontaneous backyard barbecues, and front-porch conversations are part of the everyday rhythm.
And while some families might worry about too much togetherness, the Gorneys have found a balance through mutual respect and open communication. The closeness hasn’t crowded their independence—it’s enhanced their lives.
Everyday Moments, Lasting Memories
The everyday magic of Red Tail for the Gorneys is woven into small, meaningful routines. Impromptu lunches with “GiGi and Non,” cousin meetups at the clubhouse patio, or after-school pickups by grandpa are all part of the rhythm of life.
Uncle Tim’s candy stash and Aunt Pat’s gardening lessons are highlights for the younger kids, who love running from house to house with their best-friend cousins. And when one family is traveling, the others step in without hesitation—watering plants, walking pets, or simply keeping an eye on things.
Regular activities like family pool days, tennis matches, and pasta nights at the clubhouse strengthen their bond. Silver Oak Drive, where the Kovesdys live, is known for its impromptu cul-de-sac happy hours—often thanks to their welcoming neighbors Bob and Joan Ellis—and frequently joined by the rest of the Gorney crew.
Holidays have also taken on new life in Red Tail. From festive Halloween golf cart trick-or-treating to Mother’s Day brunch at the clubhouse, traditions are evolving with each passing season. Even staff at the clubhouse joke that one dinner reservation likely means another two or three families will be added on before the night arrives.
A Community That Feels Like Home
The Gorneys not only feel embraced by Red Tail—they actively contribute to making it better. Ryan Gorney has taken a role on the HOA board, helping maintain community standards and working closely with Red Tail leadership to support ongoing improvements. He speaks highly of the impact new club manager Nick Rudy is making and encourages residents to share their feedback and ideas as well.
Beyond family, strong friendships have blossomed across generations. From wine tastings to cookouts, Kara and Ryan have forged bonds with the Sinclairs, Sabos, and Ellises. Kristin and Ryan’s children enjoy the company of the Portos and Sterleys, whose kids mirror their own in age, making for a vibrant and playful neighborhood dynamic.
Reflections & Advice from the Gorneys
Living close to family has only strengthened the Gorneys’ relationships. Boundaries are respected, but closeness is preferred. Their children have learned the importance of family—not just in theory, but through daily lived experience.
To families considering Red Tail, the Gorneys offer this simple advice: move in and get to know your neighbors. Whether they’re your relatives or not, they’ll soon feel like family.
And for the Gorneys, the heart of Red Tail isn’t a place or a building—it’s a feeling. The comfort of knowing your loved ones are just around the corner. The joy of hearing laughter echo down the street. The shared meals, the helping hands, and the endless parade of memories made together.
It’s a reminder that while houses make a neighborhood, it’s people—and the families we build—that make it home.
