He Is Off The Hook
Alex Lozon, Red Tail resident of 19 years, thrives both on the golf course and in the waters. But, not just the water he swims in which is exactly where he said he’s made some of his most cherished friendships and developed his favorite part of the neighborhood. Nonetheless, the waters where he can partake in his favorite sport, fly fishing.
Growing up, Alex fished for small panfish and bass in his nearby fishing ponds. But, the differences in the type of bait he uses, his casting technique, and the target species makes Alex’s fly fishing discovery all that more special. This occurred about 5 years ago, but really started to develop during COVID and has taken him far ever since.
With that discovery came an immense amount of skill and dedication. Alex explained that coordination is such an important skill to possess especially when it comes to timing your casts correctly. However, the biggest skill he’s learned since taking up the sport is his knot tying. Alex’s determination to learn the many different knots’ purposes and to actually tie them played a huge part in his learning process. Along with that, the reward of catching a fish on a fly that he tied himself rather than taking the easy way out and using pre-tied flies.
So, when asked what he loved most about fly fishing, it was all the work that goes into catching a fish. Somewhat similar to what he stated before, knowing you are choosing the more difficult route to fishing over the more traditional way just makes his feelings of triumph and achievement about catching the fish more intense.
Although he is the only one in his family that enjoys fishing, he appreciates the independence he experiences and the ability to just do his own thing. With that being said, his hard work has only helped his workplace as they have just opened their second lodge in Conneaut, Ohio and he’s excited for future expansions to come. As for his future, he is hopeful of the opportunity to bring his fly fish guiding skills out west to Colorado in the upcoming year.
