For Ildiko and Andrew Deutsch, their home wouldn’t feel complete without their furry companion, who keeps them on their toes in the best possible way. Scarlet Begonia is a six-and-a-half-year-old Siberian cat with a big presence and an even bigger personality. 

Scarlet’s life with Ildiko and Andrew started not too long after they met. The two, both huge fans of the Grateful Dead, actually met at a Dark Star Orchestra concert. Soon after, they adopted Scarlet from a family in Westlake who had been fostering him and another cat. It didn’t take long to realize he was the perfect fit, and the same goes for his name.

From day one, Scarlet has made it clear that he is not the kind of pet who stays in the background. He is always nearby, following Ildiko and Andrew from room to room and making sure he doesn’t miss a single moment. He even sits curled up in a chair next to them when they have dinner, just to make sure he knows what’s going on. He loves to greet them at the door and be the first thing they see when they wake up in the morning.

This doesn’t change when guests are around, either. Scarlet is incredibly friendly and has no problem making himself at home with anyone who walks through the door. It’s not uncommon for him to hop right into a guest’s lap or mingle during a party. He thrives on interaction and affection, and he makes sure everyone knows it. 

One of Scarlet’s most entertaining traits is just how curious he is. He always watches the printer when paper is coming out and likes to jump on the door of the dishwasher and look around. This curiosity also gets the best of him, since he knows how to open door handles. Guests are often warned that if the bathroom door isn’t locked, they might have an unexpected visitor. He’s also a big “talker” and loves to be vocal. He makes all sorts of noises, including meows, chirps, and trills.

When it comes to being spoiled, Scarlet has truly reached an expert level. He doesn’t just enjoy attention and interaction—he expects it. Playtime happens on his schedule, and if it’s delayed, he’ll make sure you know… repeatedly. 

More than anything, Scarlet Begonia is a lively, curious spirit who has brought a whole new kind of energy into Ildiko and Andrew’s family. With his bright, inquisitive nature and constant companionship, he is so much more than a pet. His big Siberian paws have definitely left a print on Ildiko and Andrew’s hearts, and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
