Teeing Up Opportunity: Lindsey Cutright’s Volunteer Story

Red Tail Resident Supports Local Youth Through First Tee – Cleveland

This month, we’re proud to feature Lindsey Cutright in our Volunteer Spotlight—an ongoing series that highlights Red Tail residents who generously give their time and talents to strengthen our broader community.

Lindsey volunteers with First Tee – Cleveland, an organization whose mission is to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values, and encourage healthy choices through the game of golf. With six locations across the Cleveland area—including their headquarters at Washington Park’s Woodworth Activity Center and the Meadowood Golf Course program in Westlake—First Tee is making golf accessible while nurturing confidence, leadership, and integrity in youth.

Lindsey is now entering her second year of service with First Tee, where she contributes as a board member. While her weekly time commitment averages about an hour, she notes that the impact of the program—and the passion behind it—extends far beyond the clock.

Getting involved with First Tee is easy, especially for a golf-loving community like Red Tail. One of the best introductions to the organization is the annual “Taste of the Tee” event hosted at the new Washington Golf Course center. This spring gathering pairs children from First Tee’s “Fit to a Tee” Culinary Program with chefs from local country clubs for a lively culinary competition. Past participating chefs have represented Lakewood, Country, Canterbury, and Westwood Country Clubs, making the evening a highlight of the year. Lindsey would love to see a strong Red Tail presence in attendance.

Red Tail neighbors already support First Tee in meaningful ways. Recently, resident Alieshia Quinn donated her sons’ outgrown golf shoes—items the coaches immediately put to use for young golfers in need. Lindsey encourages others to pass along any gently used equipment or apparel, especially sizes appropriate for kids and teens (ages 6–18). She’s happy to deliver donated items to the First Tee/Woodworth Activity Learning Center for anyone who prefers not to make the drive—though for those who do, she offers a friendly reminder to watch for speed traps!

There are many other ways to participate, including several annual golf outings such as the 100 Hole Golf Marathon, the Ladies Sunrise Scramble, and the Annual Benefit (scheduled to be hosted at Lakewood Country Club in 2026). First Tee also warmly welcomes volunteer coaches. And, like all nonprofits, financial support—whether through direct gifts, IRA QCDs, or appreciated stock—is always appreciated.

When asked what drew her to this organization, Lindsey shares that joining the board felt like an instant fit. Even while navigating a career move to North Point Portfolio Managers, she remained committed because the mission resonated deeply with her. She soon learned that one of the firm's partners was also actively involved with First Tee, reinforcing her enthusiasm.

Though Lindsey jokes about being the only board member without a golf handicap, she wholeheartedly values the life skills the sport teaches. Her appreciation has grown as she’s watched her children, JJ and Logan, progress through Junior PGA at Red Tail under the guidance of coaches Garth, Bill, Todd, Derek, and Marissa. From confident handshakes and eye contact to advocating for themselves during scoring disputes and performing in front of others, the kids have strengthened skills that extend well beyond the course. And, like many golfers, they’re learning to navigate the mental side of the game—perhaps the most challenging part of all.

Having seen firsthand how transformative golf can be, Lindsey feels strongly about widening access. First Tee provides families who may not have the financial means with opportunities to experience the sport—and its lifelong lessons. With such a strong golf culture here at Red Tail, Lindsey believes our community is uniquely positioned to help more kids discover the joy and confidence that golf can foster. She’s been especially moved by the heartfelt letters participants have written to their coaches, each one a testament to the program’s impact.

Lindsey, Brad (“Cutty”), JJ, and Logan have called Red Tail home for nearly a decade. Drawn by the Avon schools and close friends already in the neighborhood, they quickly found themselves woven into the fabric of the community. Lindsey says it’s the people who make Red Tail truly special. Some of their favorite moments are the unplanned ones—an evening stroll, a chance driveway catch-up, or their kids eagerly spotting familiar golfers on “their hole” and running out to ask how the round is going. It’s a place where neighbors become friends, and friends feel like family.

As for involvement in her volunteer work, the whole family is becoming more engaged with First Tee. With expanded summer camp locations, Lindsey hopes JJ and Logan will have even more opportunities to participate and experience the benefits of the program firsthand.

Thank you, Lindsey, for representing Red Tail with heart, leadership, and a commitment to helping Cleveland’s youth thrive—both on and off the course.
