School Success
Students from kindergarten through college share their best advice for starting the school year with confidence, kindness, and a positive attitude.
Starting school can be both nerve-wracking and exciting. Whether you're stepping into a kindergarten classroom or moving into a college dorm, everyone is preparing for the first day. We asked students for their back-to-school advice, as it can get tricky!
One main point made is to focus on yourself. Ninth grader Sam Ryan and college freshman Conner Mikes encourage students to concentrate on their own goals instead of comparing themselves to others, noting that everyone grows at their own pace.
Many believe being prepared sets you on the road to success. College senior Nina Sexton recommends staying organized, while 9th grader Viv Rozar reminds students to complete work on time to reduce stress and enjoy the year. On the other hand, six-year-old Vivian Czarzasty suggests waking up early and arriving on time, adding that you should just be excited to meet new teachers and classmates.
Kindness and confidence were also recurring themes. Eighth grader Tally Valdez encourages students to speak up and be confident, while five-year-old Sonora Czarzasty reminds everyone to be respectful, read books, and have fun throughout the year.
Some advice adds a little humor. Carter Anderson shares a rule every classmate can appreciate: don’t walk slowly in the hallways. Vivian also left everyone with one haunting final thought: “Math.”
No matter their age, each student shares a reminder that can help make the school year successful. By staying organized, working hard, showing kindness, and keeping a sense of humor, students can easily make the most of the upcoming school year!
