Fashion Reimagined
Local Revue owner Denise Betz Toil is redefining the consignment experience with an inviting boutique atmosphere, curated collections, and a passion for helping others.
For Denise Betz Toil, opening Local Revue was the perfect opportunity to combine her passions for fashion, art, music, and helping others into one welcoming space.
A graduate of Kent State University with a degree in Art History and a minor in Psychology, Denise spent 10 years working for Ernst & Young before stepping away from her career to raise her family. She and her husband, Charlie, have been married for 25 years and are proud parents of two college students, Larson (21) and Lola (19). Their household also includes Ziggy, a Portuguese Water Dog, and two tuxedo cats, Flip and Rey.
The inspiration for Local Revue came after Denise worked part-time at a consignment shop and discovered how much she enjoyed the business. She envisioned a more modern, elevated approach to resale shopping—one that felt warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully curated.
Today, Local Revue is an upscale women's clothing and accessories consignment boutique offering a shopping experience that feels more like a specialty boutique than a traditional resale store. Rather than sorting through tightly packed racks, shoppers browse a carefully selected showroom while hundreds of additional items are available through the boutique's growing online inventory.
Customers can even browse the website, create a list of pieces they'd like to see in person, and message the shop in advance. Denise and her team will have those items pulled and ready to try on at the customer's convenience.
In addition to women's fashion and accessories, Local Revue offers closet clean-out services and will begin hosting private shopping events this fall, creating even more personalized ways for customers to shop.
Community involvement has also been an important part of Denise's vision. Local Revue recently joined the local Chamber of Commerce to participate in community events, welcomed two Kent State University fashion students for summer retail experience, and plans to participate in the Carolyn L. Farrell Foundation for Brain Health Gala this fall.
Looking ahead, Denise is excited about several upcoming milestones, including the boutique's August ribbon cutting and participation in a Williamsburgh Square shopping event. As the business continues to grow, she hopes to introduce more private shopping experiences and one day see Local Revue expand through franchising.
The feedback from customers has been especially rewarding. Denise says one of the comments she hears most often is how beautiful the shop is, with visitors appreciating its attention to detail, warm atmosphere, and welcoming vibe.
When asked what advice she would offer others, Denise encourages residents to pursue their ambitions with confidence, "Keep reaching for the stars, take chances, and fulfill your dreams."
