Meet The Miners

Vince and Patti Miner are a very active and accomplished couple that have lived here in the River Bottoms for 37 Years.  They have raised their 5 children here and now are enjoying life as they pass on their talents and traditions to their 17 grandchildren.  Their Children and grandchildren are keeping these two busy and entertained with lots of fun and memorial events.

Patti's talents were recognized singing at church at the age of 6.  This eventually led to her performing in the live band Peace and Happiness while attending Orem High School.  She has had roles in movies, commercials, Broadway productions and a major label signing.  Her songs were #1 in 13 countries.  She currently has an online course on  "How to Sing" for upcoming and new singers.

Patti later attended Brigham Young University and earned degrees in psychology, musical theater and education. She taught at Bonneville Elementary School's 2nd grade class in the first televised Open Class Room. After graduation, she taught at the junior college and started the Dance Team and Cheer Squads at Utah Technical Center, (currently Utah Valley University).

Patti has written 3 books and has lectured throughout the country.  One of her specialty topics is how the body repairs itself, collagen and gut health.  She is known for her positive, upbeat personality.

Dr Vince Miner Ph.D. Exercise Science Professor; Modere Social Marketer just retired after 48 years. He has spent his life researching the best practices for the optimum healthy lifestyle and has taught Health and Nutrition and Sports Psychology courses to thousands of students including medical students at the Utah Valley University.  He has been a teacher of the year and was a main presenter on Nutritional topics to Chiropractic and other Fitness Groups.

Vince was a winning basketball coach at UVU and also coached softball, tennis and golf. He started all the outdoor recreation, intramural and women's sports for the college.

Vince and Patti both love to play tennis and won the Gold Medal at the Senior Games in Mixed Doubles Tennis. They competed at the Huntsman World Senior Games, with over 14,000 athletes, from over 40 different countries.  Patti won a Bronze medal and Vince won a Silver and a Bronze.  They will be going to Nationals later this month.  They also enjoy oil painting, hiking, watching movies and traveling.

As a family, the Miners have several family traditions that they love and look forward to each year.  On New Year's Eve, the family has a party early in the day that ends around 8 pm.  That way the little ones can go to bed and the older kids can go to other parties and events to bring in the New Year.   They have a spectacular Easter Egg hunt each year where they fill over 1200 Easter Eggs with coins and dollar bills.  This is a tradition that even the adults in the family look forward to.

Together the whole family plans some type of vacation each year.  They have gone on a Cruise, been to several Theme Parks, and Club Med. They have also taken a Train Ride to Glenwood Springs, Colorado just to name a few.

July is packed with fun! On the Fourth of July, the whole neighborhood does a parade around the block.  The Miners have participated by making a float for it. They dress up their four-wheelers and bikes and enjoy this tradition with the neighbors.  After they have a barbeque and play games in their backyard.   On the 24th of July, some of the activities their family participates in are camping trips, horseback riding, drive-in theaters, basketball, tennis, volleyball tournaments, board games and an annual demolition derby.

In October the spooks come out and so does the Miner family.  They make a big pot of chili and the family usually dresses up in themes like Disney or Star Wars.  One year they dressed up like the characters from the Wizard of Oz.   All of the characters were taken so Patti dressed up as the Wicked Witch of the East.  Now we all remember that is the one that the house fell on.    Hahaha, what a fun tradition for them and the trick-or-treaters.   They usually get around 500 trick-or-treaters each year and they all take turns answering the door.

For Thanksgiving, they do an ornament exchange.  Patti said, " They are always inexpensive or homemade." They get very creative.  When Christmas rolls around they dress up and role-play the Nativity bringing the true meaning of the Savior's birth.   Then they make gingerbread houses, when they are all done they have a contest judging the best house.

We wish Vince and Patti luck in their upcoming Tennis Tournament! We are lucky to have such a wonderful family living in our neighborhood.
