Happy National Ice Cream Sandwich Day!

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Uhhh, this can’t seriously be a real thing.” Well, I kid you not, we have nationally dedicated a day to ice cream sandwiches. It’s on August 2nd. Yes, it is an “unofficial holiday”, but I don’t see anything unofficial about rich, creamy ice cream squished between two delicious chocolate cookies. So read on for some fun facts about this tasty holiday!
1: They were cheap!
In 1905, you could buy an ice cream sandwich for exactly one penny. Which means that if you had $3.65, you could buy enough ice cream sandwiches for you to have one a day for a whole year!
2: We like them - a lot!
If you were to add up the amount of ice cream sandwiches eaten in the US, you would find that Americans, on average, eat 48 per second! That’s a lot of ice cream!
3: They were born from cake
Originally, back over a hundred years ago, ice cream sandwiches were made by putting the ice cream between two pieces of sponge cake. Cookies weren’t used until about 1928.
4: Ice cream goes far
If you were to stack up all of the ice cream sandwiches eaten in the world in a year, you would have a stack approximately 280,500 miles tall! That’s about the distance from Earth to the moon! In fact, it’s even farther!
