Game Set Match

Jane Miller has lived in her neighborhood since she was two years old! She has loved being in her ward and community for the past 15 years. She is now an athlete at Timpview High school where she is a junior.

She comes from a family of successful golfers, but started playing Tennis around five years ago when Covid hit. Jane started hitting in the driveway with her sister for fun. This made her decide to play on her middle school team with her friends. Jane continued to play, and last school year she played second player on the doubles varsity team.

Her favorite competition last year was the State Tourney. Jane and her partner, Sasha Tolman, were undefeated their entire season, except for one match to Wasatch High School. Jane and Sasha defeated them once at region, but then Wasatch switched around their lineup. Which made for a very close match, where unfortunately Jane and her partner lost.

When state rolled around Jane and Sasha beat Olympus high school in the quarterfinals! But then they were matched up to play the Wasatch team again! It was neck and neck the entire match, Jane’s team had won one, and so had Wasatch. Unfortunately Jane and Sasha lost the third set, and ultimately the match.

This season taught Jane a lot about competing at a high level and she really enjoyed it. She learned the importance of work ethic. Even the loss taught her a lot and made her want to keep working hard for the next year!

Being on a varsity team while in high school takes a lot of time and work. Something that has helped Jane be able to do this is the support she gets from her parents. Her dad is a collegiate golf course and has also helped her by giving her feedback. She looks up to her family of golfers and their work ethic.

Jane Miller has big dreams on and off the court. She wants to go to school to become either a Pediatric Occupational Therapist or a Speech Pathologist. She wants aspiring young athletes to “have fun and work hard!”
