Hello, friends. My name is Bonnie Blue-Belle, and though I only weigh three pounds, four ounces, I have the biggest heart you can imagine. I’m a four-year-old blue and tan Yorkshire Terrier, and every day I do my very best to fill my family’s home with love, joy, and a little sparkle of sweetness.
I came into their lives after a very special dog named Maurice the Maltese passed away. Many River Ranch neighbors still remember him sitting in the Town Square window, greeting everyone who walked by. For two years, my family’s home felt so quiet without him. Then one day, my mom saw my picture on Facebook and instantly knew I was meant to belong with them.
A Name Full of Meaning
My name is extra special. I’m named for Scarlett and Rhett’s little girl, “Bonnie Blue,” in Gone With The Wind. I also share a name with Blue Bell Ice Cream, which is my mom’s favorite treat. And perhaps dearest of all, I’m named for my mom’s grandmother Bonnie, a petite Englishwoman whose gentleness lives on in me.
Tiny but Mighty
When I was born, I was so very small that I had to stay with my mother for four whole months. Even after coming home, I stayed quiet for almost a year before I barked for the first time. My doctor, Dr. Pete, always assured my family I’d find my voice, and he was right.
Now I never leave my people’s side. I follow them from room to room and beg to be picked up, happiest when I’m curled in their arms or lap. They say I’m like velcro, and I think that’s the highest compliment.
My Little Quirks
Even though I’m small, I have a very big sense for the weather. Long before anyone checks the forecast, I tremble and snuggle close, letting my family know a storm is near. Sure enough, thunder and lightning soon follow.
I also live quite the pampered life. Every three weeks, I visit the spa for grooming and return with pretty bows and topknots. My hair is often styled in pigtails or a pony, though keeping it neat is a challenge. My favorite snack is Honeycrisp apples, but I also get tastes of whatever fruits and vegetables my family is enjoying.
A Daily Joy
Each morning, I wait patiently by the bedside until my family opens their eyes. Once they greet me, my little world bursts to life with energy and excitement, and I don’t stop sharing my joy until it’s time to rest again at night.
Animals are truly God’s gift to mankind. My family says I have filled their home and hearts with love again, just as Maurice once did. And though I am small, I hope my gentle spirit reminds everyone I meet how special it is to love and care for God’s creatures.
