Cruising the Rhine with Iggie and Tia Castille

A Scenic Journey from Switzerland to Amsterdam—With Cheese, Chocolate, and a Toast or Two

Sometimes, the best travel inspiration strikes when you least expect it. For Iggie and Tia Castille, it came during a quiet morning watching CBS Sunday Morning, when a Viking River Cruise commercial caught their attention. The stunning scenery, historic cities, and promise of a relaxing journey down the Rhine River was all it took—they were sold. Before long, they were packing their bags for a once-in-a-lifetime cruise from Switzerland to Amsterdam with friends.

The Viking experience didn’t disappoint. From the moment they boarded, Iggie and Tia were swept away by the cruise’s thoughtful touches, high-end amenities, and seamless convenience. “The service was truly exceptional,” Tia shared. “Everything was taken care of, which gave us the freedom to truly relax and soak in every experience.”

And experience, they did.

Each day brought new adventures, from visiting a winery nestled in the countryside to indulging their sweet tooth at the Lindt chocolate factory. One of their favorite excursions was an e-bike tour through picturesque towns in France and Italy, which included unplanned but delightful stops at neighborhood cafés and local restaurants where they mingled with residents and enjoyed regional flavors.

Back on the ship, the fun didn’t stop. One memorable evening, they found themselves at a local Irish pub in town, raising a glass with none other than the ship’s captain himself—a favorite memory from the trip.

They were enchanted by the sights at every stop—charming villages, towering cathedrals, stunning architecture, and of course, the iconic Dutch windmills. A visit to a Gouda cheese factory was another highlight, giving them a literal taste of local culture.

When asked what they enjoyed most, Tia didn’t hesitate: “The convenience and high-quality service.” Each excursion was planned with care, the pace was perfect, and the entire trip felt like a stress-free dream.

So what’s their advice for neighbors considering a Viking cruise? “Go Viking—and definitely get the spirits package!” Tia laughs. With excellent wine, cocktails, and specialty coffees available at any time, it’s a splurge they say is well worth it.

After returning home, Iggie and Tia are still glowing from the memories made along the Rhine. Every moment was filled with joy, discovery, and connection—exactly the kind of trip they’d hoped for when they first saw that Sunday morning commercial.
