Adventures in Zion
Brandie Courville shares her unforgettable journey through Zion's iconic trails and breathtaking landscapes.

Where did you travel?
Zion National Park, located in the southwestern region of Utah, is one of the most popular and iconic national parks. Approximately a 2.5-hour drive from Las Vegas, NV, Springdale, UT, known as the gateway to Zion National Park, offers close proximity to the park entrance. Parking in and around the park can be cumbersome, so be sure to take advantage of the free and well-organized public shuttle system into the park.
What inspired you to go there?
Appropriately named by the Mormon community, Zion, meaning sanctuary or refuge, it's easy to understand why after visiting. Surrounded by red and pink buttes, Zion's landscape is a continuous source of natural inspiration and healing.
What did you do there?
Zion is home to two of the most desirable adventures for outdoor enthusiasts: Angels Landing and The Narrows. Angels Landing is 5,770 ft in elevation from the ground and requires a permit to pass beyond a certain point. Parts of the hike are very narrow, so make sure you are physically capable of withstanding the rigorous nature of this trail. Thank you, Pilates, for keeping me strong and balanced during this adventure! The Narrows is a river canyon hike with stunning views and waterfalls. Again, the river currents are strong, so be prepared.
What did you enjoy most and why?
The entire adventure was outstanding!
Do you have recommendations for your neighbors if they travel there?
The fall months are a fantastic time to visit due to cooler temperatures, but make sure to visit before the Christmas holidays, as many of the shuttle systems close to allow employees time off. With several restaurants, cozy coffee shops, outfitters, and supply shops, Springdale makes a great home base while visiting. I highly recommend staying at Cliffrose by Hilton Hotels, which offers walking distance access to the park. Splurge and hire a guide for these adventures—it’s well worth it!
