Meet Woodstock
The self-appointed guardian of Riverlights' delivery drivers
Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Woodstock, a distinguished 16½-year-old Yorkshire Terrier with years of experience supervising my humans and protecting Riverlights from suspicious delivery drivers.
My humans and I have called Riverlights home for the past seven years after I graciously allowed them to retire from Long Island and relocate here. They probably think they made the decision, but let's be honest, I was ready for warmer weather, more neighbors to greet, and a whole new audience to admire me.
Before moving in together, I was carefully interviewing prospective humans from a pet store. After much consideration, I selected these two because they seemed trainable. They're still a work in progress. They continue serving meals that don't quite meet my sophisticated palate, but I suppose no one is perfect.
I was named after Woodstock from Charlie Brown because I was so tiny as a puppy. While my size may be small, my personality has always been considerably larger. As every Yorkie knows, we're an ancient breed specially equipped for two very important jobs: looking impossibly adorable and destroying cardboard boxes left by delivery drivers. It's practically in our DNA.
Speaking of delivery drivers...they require constant supervision. Every package that arrives could contain who-knows-what, and someone has to alert the neighborhood. I take this responsibility very seriously. If a box appears on my doorstep, I'm prepared to inspect it immediately - preferably by opening it myself. My humans call it barking. I call it public service.
When I'm not protecting the neighborhood, I enjoy greeting new people. In fact, I insist on being petted by every human I meet. Other dogs? They're fine, I suppose, but the people are really there to see me anyway. After all, humans seem to need affection far more than we dogs do, and I generously allow them to pet me for extended periods as my contribution to their happiness.
You'll often find me strolling through Marina Village, saying hello to anyone willing to acknowledge my greatness. I also enjoy spending time with my neighborhood pals Rizzo, Rocket, Alma, and Rex - although I maintain that I'm the one keeping the group together.
At home, life is equally demanding. I spend quality time on the couch with my male human barking at hockey games on television, while my female human lovingly prepares meals that I occasionally refuse on principle. It's important to keep expectations realistic.
As for adventures, nothing beats sticking my head out the car window with the wind in my face. Well...unless another delivery truck happens to drive by. Someone has to keep Riverlights safe, after all. It might as well be me.
