On June 13, neighbors gathered at The Enclave clubhouse for an unforgettable afternoon of caftans, cocktails, mahjong, and giving back. While Mother Nature certainly turned up the thermostat, the ladies in attendance were determined to have fun while supporting an incredible cause.

The event began with a vision from resident Lisa Phillips, who approached Carol Yim with the idea of hosting a poolside mahjong fundraiser benefiting Cap & Keep. As she has done so many times before, Carol brought that vision to life, creating an event that blended friendship, philanthropy, and plenty of laughter.

Cap & Keep was founded by Addie Looper, whose own breast cancer journey inspired her mission. Diagnosed at just 21 years old, Addie used cold capping therapy to preserve her hair during treatment. Today, through Cap & Keep, she helps women throughout the Chattanooga area access the same opportunity while navigating one of life's most difficult challenges.

Of course, no Riverview fundraiser feels complete without Carol Yim at the center of it all. Her gift for bringing people together continues to strengthen our community, and this event was no exception.

Adding even more excitement to the afternoon was special guest Megan Harris, founder of Bama Mahj, who attended with her husband, Jamey. Before the festivities, I had the opportunity to sit down with the couple over brunch for a quick conversation.

Megan shared that she discovered mahjong less than a year ago after being invited to a casual learning event. What began as an afternoon of snacks, cocktails, and curiosity quickly turned into a full blown passion.

That passion eventually became Bama Mahj. Megan saw a need for beautifully designed, high quality mahjong tiles that did not require a luxury price tag. Today, Bama Mahj offers stunning tile sets and accessories that have become incredibly popular, with many releases selling out during preorders.

When asked how she became connected to the Riverview and Enclaves community, Megan smiled and immediately pointed to Carol. "Carol reached out to me." It was a response that surprised absolutely no one in the room.

Giving back has always been part of Megan and Jamey's story. They explained that as Bama Mahj has grown, it has allowed them to support even more charitable organizations, something they both value deeply. Carol added that Megan is often among the very first people to contribute whenever a fundraiser is announced. Many neighbors may also remember Bama Mahj's generous donations during the White Oak Bicycle Co-op fundraiser earlier this year.

Despite the rapid success of her business, Megan remains remarkably hands on. She still personally packs and labels many orders after her children are asleep, carefully overseeing every detail. She affectionately describes Bama Mahj as her "baby," and it is easy to see the pride she takes in building something special.

When she is not running her growing company, Megan enjoys spending time with her two young children, tackling DIY projects, and planning Disney adventures. She even shared photos of a beautiful kitchen renovation she completed with her parents.

Watching Megan and Jamey navigate this exciting season of growth is inspiring. Their success is rooted in hard work, generosity, and genuine kindness, making them easy people to cheer for.

As for my final question, I jokingly asked when the highly coveted Ginger tile collection would be back in stock. Let's just say...I never quite got an answer.

The afternoon closed with an incredible reminder of what happens when neighbors come together for a purpose. More than $4,300 was raised for Cap & Keep, with additional donations still arriving after the event. Another $2,207 in donated products and services came from generous local businesses and mahjong partners, including Bird Bam Cheer, Vine Street Market, Peach Loft Pilates, Kendra Scott, Forget Me Not Candles, Jenny McCarty ALT, Pilates Center Ooltewah, Bama Mahj, Mahj Bloom Designs, Brewtifully, and Soiree All Day.

Sometimes the hottest day of the summer creates the warmest display of community. This was certainly one of those days.
