Portuguese Bend National Horse Show

Despite extremely warm temperatures, the 66th Annual Portuguese Bend National Horse Show (PBNHS), held at Ernie Howlett Park, September 6th-8th did not skip a beat. This year’s show lived up to its theme, “Saddle Up for Smiles,” as many riders, trainers and attendees were happy and excited to be part of this event. The goal is also to give young patients at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) a lifetime of smiles by having all proceeds support specific programs at the hospital. Rolling Hills resident, Michelle Del Conte, chaired the Horse Show and led the numerous Peninsula Committee Children’s Hospital (PCCH) volunteers and their families to make this event a true success.

PBNHS welcomed new show managers Ashley Keeler and Steve Hankin from Desert International Horse Park. Their many efforts included greatly improving the footing in the rings and enhancing the efficiency of the show.  All weekend, horse enthusiasts were treated to exceptional riding, including the prestigious PCHA Horsemanship Medal Finals, the $15,000 Seahorse Open Jumper Classic, the $10,000 Harman Jr.-A/O Jumper Classic, and two new $2500 Hunt and Go Derbies.

Families also enjoyed delicious BBQ, a specialty boutique and children’s area with games, pony rides, and entertainment for the whole family. The PBNHS packs a lot into 3 days and this special community event never disappoints.

Be sure to mark your calendars for next year’s event scheduled for September 5-7, 2025.
