Meet the Founders
Ian Johnson, Owner and Head Personal Trainer, has dedicated over a decade to fitness training and management. With a background in personal training and fitness management, he brings his expertise and an innovative vision to the studio.
Jenna Johnson, Owner and Head of Operations, complements his efforts with her hospitality management experience, ensuring every client feels valued and welcome. Married since 2017, they are raising two young children (ages 5 and 2) while pursuing their shared dream of bringing efficient, effective fitness to the South Bay.
For Ian, opening Top Tyr Training fulfilled a long-standing dream. "I’d been wanting to open a biohacking studio since 2019,” he explains. The pandemic presented a “now or never” moment, and they decided to go all in. As Ian says, “We lost our jobs and it was a golden opportunity. We had nothing left to lose.” Starting a business and a family during the pandemic were gamechangers for them, but they couldn’t be happier.
For Jenna, the move to becoming a successful business was a rewarding shift. “It’s a job that creates creativity and a lot of psychology goes into it,” she says. She likes warmly welcoming their clients and connecting with them.
“We love what we do,” smiles Jenna. She also enjoys working with Ian. “I am lucky that I get to work with my best friend every day.”
Biohacking Meets Fitness
At Top Tyr Training, fitness innovation is at the forefront. “Our gym doesn’t use traditional equipment like barbells or dumbbells,” Ian explains. “We break the mold of traditional personal training through corrective exercise and biotechnology.”
Through biohacking and AI-based technology, highly efficient, safe, and sustainable workouts are created. By focusing on corrective exercise and biotechnology, Top Tyr’s approach is uniquely tailored to each client, prioritizing muscle gain, functional strength, and injury prevention.
“The mainstream world of fitness hasn’t progressed in many, many years,” he comments. “We believe we are bringing a new way to the South Bay.”
Biohacking is all about maximizing efficiency and reducing the wear and tear often associated with traditional training. “It’s not just about looking good,” Jenna shares. “Our mission is to help people live longer, healthier lives, so they can continue doing the things they love.” Whether it’s playing pickleball, running after grandkids, or simply feeling stronger in daily life, strength training is essential for quality of life.
30 Minutes a Week to Strength and Wellness
One of Top Tyr Training’s standout features is its streamlined approach to strength training. “With our AI machines, you can get an effective workout in just 30 minutes a week,” Ian says. This efficiency allows clients to fit training into their busy schedules, even if they’re juggling work, family, and other commitments.
For Jenna, the studio’s approach to fitness is life-changing. “As a busy mom and co-owner of two businesses, I don’t have hours to spend at the gym,” she says. Knowing she can build strength in a sustainable, time-efficient way gives her more time to focus on my kids and other activities I love, such as yoga or walking.
A Personalized and Welcoming Space
Ian, who was born and raised in the South Bay area, is deeply connected to the community. His family resides here and Ian feels grateful to put down roots here. “To open up a studio here and help others is special to me,” he shares. It’s not just a job—it’s about making a difference in the place he grew up. Jenna adds that their focus on hospitality extends beyond fitness. “We strive to make every client feel like they’re in their own home gym,” she explains. Their goal is to build personal relationships with every client and be a positive part of their lives.
Clients aren’t just getting a workout at Top Tyr—they’re building a connection with experts who genuinely care about their progress. "We don’t just look at how strong you are today," Ian says. "We focus on how strong you’ll be months, or even years, down the line."
