The Rolling Hills Way
Moving to Rolling Hills this year has been an amazing experience for our family. The privacy and beautiful surroundings are rich with trees and vast amounts of space, making this city a unique place to live. Walking the trails, engaging with the community, and meeting new families has shown us the true beauty of Rolling Hills, which is in the people and their families. This November, as we reflect on what we are thankful for, our Rolling Hills neighbors are at the top of our list.
Shortly after moving into our home, we received the warmest welcome from our new neighbors. Many reached out to us with cards, plants, honey, tea, baked goods, bottles of wine, and invitations saying, “Let us know if there is ever anything you need.” As a person who is passionate about cooking and is in the kitchen every day, it has been so exciting to be invited for homemade dinners by our neighbors. We have enjoyed incredible meals such as traditional barbecued ribs with all the fixins, homemade crunchy tacos, and fantastic Persian stews. The hospitality is like no other.
What made our hearts swell even more with gratitude were the compassionate neighbors who saved our precious German Shepard, Liroi. He got out on a blustery, windy night when it seemed to be raining pine needles and coyotes were loudly yelping in packs. Another RH family had seen him on Portuguese Bend Road and spent a significant portion of the end of their evening making sure he was safe. After hearing about this, someone in a community text group of women posted a message about him, in hopes there was a happy ending of reuniting a dog to his family – and yes, he was home safe the next day. I was also contacted by a fellow RH German Shepard lover and owner, who cared so much to know if Liroi was well. Rolling Hills takes the name animal lovers to a whole new level, and we appreciate this very much.
The Rolling Hills community showed their care for each other at the very beginning of the utility crisis when select homes received very short notice of gas and power shutoffs, which impacted so many homes. Women reached out to each other immediately, offering to deliver groceries, inviting neighbors (some they had not yet met) to stay at their house, or to stop by to charge a device. Many stated that their doors are open and to “just come on over anytime,” simply because we live in this city together.
It’s magical to be in a community where people take care of each other – like family – which is the Rolling Hills way. There are many opportunities to become involved in the community and best of all, meet incredible people. My husband and I hosted a dinner party at the end of the summer with several Rolling Hills families, some of whom met each other for the first time. The feedback and reactions all had a common theme – everyone was so thankful to have connected with their neighbors and many of the kids made new friends. We’d like to say a gracious thank you to the residents of Rolling Hills who make this city a special place to live.
