Breaking New Ground in Art with Innovative Exhibits Designed to Capture People’s Hearts

Are you looking to be inspired? Gain an appreciation of art or simply see sights that will captivate your soul? Be sure to check out VEFA Gallery, which showcases a variety of art that will leave you wanting even more.

This brand-new, premier contemporary fine art gallery is the brainchild of Dr. Joseph Anderson, an orthopedic knee surgeon who converted his private medical practice into an incredible display space for art. Gallery Director and Assistant Curator Jonathan Anderson, son of Dr. Joseph Anderson, explains how VEFA Gallery came about.

From Dream to Reality

VEFA Gallery was born out of a shared family vision between Dr. Joseph Anderson, his wife Kathleen, and four sons. As Jonathan explains, "My father was always deeply invested in education and travel, often taking us on extensive trips to explore the history, art, and culture of various countries." These formative experiences, which included visiting archaeological sites, museums, and even receiving private tours from world-renowned experts, fueled their passion for art and culture.

One such memorable trip in 2008 led them to Egypt, where they had the rare opportunity to explore King Tut's tomb, Luxor Temple and the Great Pyramids with world-leading Egyptologist Bob Brier. "These experiences taught us that the world is so much bigger than we can imagine. The art and history of each country are profound, and art is a defining factor in our cultural differences," Jonathan reflects. This belief that art is the pinnacle of a society’s cultural and intellectual achievements, underpins VEFA Gallery’s mission.

With this profound appreciation for art and culture, the Andersons set out to bring something extraordinary to the South Bay—a region Jonathan describes as an “art desert.” "We are aiming to compete with the biggest galleries in the world, right here in the South Bay," he points out.

A New Hub for Art in the South Bay

VEFA Gallery is housed in a stunning 6,700-square-foot state-of-the-art building in Torrance, California, and is set to open its doors on November 9th with the grand opening exhibition titled "The Art of Surf." This inaugural show will feature works by multiple artists who draw inspiration from the ocean, showcasing how the sea has shaped their creative vision. "The Art of Surf is the groundbreaking show that will establish us as a high-end contemporary fine art gallery, while also easing the community into the idea of living with art by collecting some of the most sought-after artists across the globe.”

VEFA Gallery is committed to not only showcasing art but also educating the community through what has been cleverly coined "edutainment"—a combination of education and entertainment. Each exhibition will offer a fresh perspective on different art movements, with the goal of both educating and inspiring visitors.

"We’ve successfully secured some of the biggest names in the art world," Jonathan shares. Among them are monumental sculptor Andy Scott, known for his 100-foot horse monument, The Kelpies, and the West Coast graffiti pioneer Risk Rock, who will have a permanent residency at VEFA Gallery. "Each exhibition will bring a new look to the art movement we want to teach and educate the community about," Jonathan adds.

Artful Living

In addition to the gallery's exhibitions, VEFA Gallery will feature a gift shop offering pieces of art designed to brighten everyday life. "Artful living" is the gallery’s philosophy—believing that art should not only be admired but also integrated into daily life.

With Senior Advisor and Lead Curator Delia Cabral, who brings over 30 years of experience to the team, VEFA Gallery has quickly established itself as a credible and influential space. "Delia’s expertise has brought us some of the biggest artists in the world and an enormous amount of credibility," says Jonathan.
