Rolling Hills resident Sebastiano “Buddy” Galletti is passionate about bringing the community together by providing the freshest and highest quality of seafood from around the world. Buddy, born in Sicily, immigrated to the United States in 1947. His family came through Ellis Island after the war. The only possessions they brought with them were some personal belongings and a dream for a better life. They first settled in Detroit, Michigan, but 12 years later moved to San Pedro, where Buddy’s father could continue his fishing career. Fishing has been part of the Galletti family for generations, up until Buddy and his brothers decided to make working in retail supermarkets a new career path. The brothers became business partners and started a wholesale distribution company, which quickly turned into a seafood wholesale and distribution company. It has always been a dream of Buddy’s to open a retail market.

Great American International Seafood Market opened its doors on December 12, 2018. The store’s mission is to offer the freshest and highest quality seafood and other proteins from around the world. Both Buddy and his sons Sam Galletti, Paul Galletti, and Sal Perri relish the neighborhood feel that the store atmosphere offers. They strive to have the store offer unique items and to be a special place for customers to come back, repeatedly. In addition to seafood and other proteins, they also offer a large variety of unique international seafood items sold in cans and jars along with some amazing sauces, pastas, oils, and wines. They continue to look for items that cannot be found in a traditional market.

The ten team members at the store are incredibly knowledgeable about the products offered. They educate customers on where the products are from, and how to prepare and cook, and they can suggest the perfect wine to complement a dish. The team members are not only incredibly knowledgeable about the product but also genuinely love getting to know their customers. They enjoy seeing the same customers each week, sometimes asking them how a recipe went! The team is also very diligent when it comes to cleanliness. Buddy and the team want every customer to be satisfied.

Seafood is dear to Buddy’s heart since his father and grandfather were both fishermen. He explains, “The fishing profession requires a very high work ethic. I am lucky enough to make a living doing what I love and doing it with my family. In the past, my business partners were my brothers. Today, my partners are my sons and son-in-law. We live and work together in the same business and community. I consider myself extremely lucky to have this in my life. Our partnership in business and life is what I consider my dream come true. Great American International Seafood store takes a little from each part of my life and puts it all together. My love for food, seafood, family, community, and pride of ownership.”
