Women’s Community Club of Rolling Hills ANNUAL TEA

ParTEA ParTEA ParTEA!   FUN FUN FUN!

The Women’s Community Club of Rolling Hills (WCCRH) hosted their annual ParTEA at the beautiful home of Carolyn Hadley Colburn, a.k.a. “the property on Crest Road with the orchard in the front yard“. The expansive property has an endless view of LA, and the home comfortably welcomes guests with its elegant, timeless decor.  Carolyn is second generation in Rolling Hills, like others within the community, “carrying on” in their parents' homes, like Judith Haenel, ParTea golf cart driver.

The Barbie theme of this year’s TEA asked ladies to "Channel your inner Barbie”, which was expressed by attendees dressing up in a lot of pink! A tradition of wearing fascinators/pill box hats, as well as wide brimmed sun hats, brought sophistication to this outdoor celebration. Moms with their daughters and granddaughters of various ages added to the festive atmosphere. A few young girls even played on the lawn with a Barbie set. Karen Willis, past WCCRH President, had shared at a prior Women’s Club meeting, “How can generations of young girls know what a TEA is unless they attend one?”

The decorations were the result of detailed, creative work from the Tea event co-chairs Karen Willis and Shannon Thomas. Tables displayed jaw-dropping centerpieces from various items you couldn’t imagine using, such as toy racetracks that were bent to make a basket handle and then embellished with flashy gems and Barbie theme-colored artificial flowers.  Shannon created amazing prizes that included jewelry pieces and artistically decorated "opportunity baskets" filled with an abundance of unique items, which were all donated by WCCRH members. Judith Haenel had her dream job of driving the floral garland decorated golf cart that transported guests from Crest Road to the party. Guests sipped a variety of delicious drinks, including strawberry smash, Kir Royale and of course tea, which paired perfectly with the overflowing platters of homemade, tea sized sandwiches and sweet desserts.

Attendees were welcomed at the lovely entrance and given the opportunity to purchase tickets for the various opportunity baskets. Those guests who chose to make a small donation received a custom WCCRH apron. Then the mingling began as we all enjoyed the beautiful day of food, friends and fun. Later in the day one of the children was enlisted to help pick the winners of the pretty baskets and we celebrated them all.

This event was also a chance to learn more about the Women’s Club which is open to all women residents of Rolling Hills. WCCRH meetings are held the first Thursday of each month, except July, at a fellow resident's home. Much of our time is spent planning our signature events which include the Tea, the Holiday Snow Party (Snow Day) and the Egg Roll.  Some of our younger members are in a “mom group” that gives families with children a way to connect. We have an Angel Committee that reaches out to residents during difficult times with a visit or a card. We offer tables and chairs for rent to residents at reduced rates. We’ve got a lot going on and are committed to our community. WCCRH members embody a spirit of volunteerism that will carry on the traditions that residents know and love well into the future.

All in all, the TEA was an enjoyable outing on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Rolling Hills, and a chance to visit with neighbors we know, welcome new ones, and make new friends.  We hope to see more women of Rolling Hills join a meeting soon…or bring your family out to our next event, Snow Day, on Sunday December 8 from 1- 3pm at City Hall.
