Say Hello to the Paulin Family!

Finding Community, Connection and Adventure in Rolling Hills

Hello, Rolling Hills! We’re the Paulins—Whitney, Chapin, and our two daughters, Adaline (6) and Emmaline (4). When we moved here, we weren’t just looking for a house; we wanted a community, and from the very start, Rolling Hills felt like home.

Emmaline, our youngest, was born just after we moved here, and she’s our little artist. She spends her days playing with our backyard chickens and can sit for hours coloring—especially if you join her! Emmaline goes to St. John Fisher School, while her big sister Adaline is already a budding adventurer at Silver Spur Elementary. Adaline’s love for rock climbing, snorkeling, and soccer is strong, and she’s as fearless as they come—definitely takes after me with her bold spirit.

Rolling Hills = Home Sweet Home

We moved to Rolling Hills in 2019, but it was really a homecoming for our family. Chapin’s roots go back generations—his grandparents, Harold and Beulah Bowen, moved to Portuguese Bend in the 1940s, inspired by their friend Frank Vanderlip, who was helping shape the area at the time. We love knowing our girls are growing up in a place so rich with family history.
I grew up in Murray, Utah, where my family’s dedication to medicine influenced me to pursue pediatrics. Now, being part of this amazing community and carrying on that commitment to care is incredibly rewarding. Rolling Hills is the perfect blend of history, nature, and neighbors who look out for one another.

If you’ve ever seen a big, black-and-white dog exploring Rolling Hills, that’s Milo, our Large Munsterlander. He’s a bird-hunting breed from Germany, and his adventurous side means he’s always curious to roam around. Friendly as can be, he might even come up to say hello if he’s out and about—he’s always making new friends!

Pursuing Our Passions

Chapin and his brother Christian run Capstan, a powder metal manufacturing company his grandfather, Don Paullin, started after WWII to increase production rates needed to supply our troops. The company continued to grow under Mark Paullin, Chapin’s father, reaching past 500 employees and multiple divisions in the USA and Mexico. Today, Chapin Paullin and Christian Paullin, brothers, lead the family-owned business, a rarity, with only 30 powder metal companies in the USA still in existence making automotive, agriculture, and aerospace parts for high-volume assemblies. Just one program for Ford Motors means they make 3-6 million pieces of the same part required for every vehicle. Currently, they have over 500 different programs they make for companies around the world.

As for me, I’m a board-certified pediatrician. After spending several years as a pediatrician with Kaiser Permanente and facing my own skin cancer journey, I’ve recently opened a private concierge pediatrics practice in Redondo Beach’s Riviera Village. Through Dr. Whitney’s Concierge, I’m blending traditional medicine with holistic options to support children’s health. It’s been a rewarding shift, especially knowing I’m able to provide families with choices that resonate with them personally. When I’m not helping others, I like to go scuba diving. Being underwater is my happy place.

Holiday Happiness

The holidays are extra special for us. Every December, our house turns into a cookie factory—we bake and decorate 300-500 Santa cookies to share with friends, neighbors, and family! We also pack up each year for a snowy trip to Mammoth, where the girls are learning to ski. It’s one of our favorite traditions and the perfect way to celebrate together.

If you stop by in December, there’s a good chance you’ll leave with a plate of our secret-recipe cookies!

Building Memories in Rolling Hills

One of our favorite memories here is a neighborhood gathering on Flying Mane Road, hosted by Carla Routt and organized by friends. It was an incredible evening, filled with laughter and stories, that brought everyone closer together and reminded us of the strength of this community. We feel so lucky to live in a place where neighbors become friends, and friends feel like family.

The natural beauty of Rolling Hills is one of our biggest blessings. We love taking family walks on the horse trails, picking wild blackberries each year, and joining in the community events that bring everyone together. The simple pleasures—the sounds, scents, and views of this area—make every day feel a little bit like a retreat.

Looking Ahead

As our family grows and settles in more deeply, we’re excited to keep making memories and connecting with everyone in this beautiful place. If you’re ever nearby, we’d love for you to stop by, say hello, and maybe share a few stories. And, of course, we’ll always have a fresh dozen eggs, a friendly chat, and perhaps a cookie or two to share!
