Say Hello to the Rietdyk Family!

Food. Family. Fun.

Rolling Hills is home sweet home for Guido and Sophie Rietdyk and their three children, Arthur (26), Charlotte (24), and Sasha (18). Lola, their adorable dog, makes their house a home with her unconditional love and constant companionship.

Rolling Hills is everything they desire. “We love the secure feeling of being behind the gates, the beautiful greenery and mature plants and trees, its large properties, and the many trails,” they explain. “It’s a nice neighborhood where people actually say hi to each other.” They also enjoy the amazing views, spacious lots, and the non-city feel.

After purchasing their home in 2007 and undergoing an extensive remodel, they moved into their dream home in 2008. Born in Europe, Guido and Sophie actually crossed paths in 1989 at USC, where they were pursuing their MBAs. “We were introduced by Sophie’s older brother,” recalls Guido. They started dating that year and have been married since 1996.

Meet the Kids

The Rietdyk children, Arthur, Charlotte, and Sasha, seamlessly followed the Palos Verdes school trail, attending Peninsula Montessori School, Rancho Vista Elementary School, Miraleste Middle School, and finally, Palos Verdes Peninsula High School.

Arthur, a UC Berkeley graduate from the HAAS Business School, has embarked on a career in Private Equity in Miami, where he enjoys boating and hanging out with colleagues. As for Charlotte, a USC business school alumna and a banker at Citi Private Bank, she showcases her creativity through knitting, painting, and cooking. She also loves golf, which suits her to a tee. Sasha, a freshman at SDSU, is navigating university life, balancing soccer, socializing, and studying.

Family Fun

As a family, time together is well spent. Whether cooking together for Thanksgiving or painting on canvas during Christmas break, this tight-knit family simply likes to spend time together. Lola, a cherished member of the family, also likes to join in on the action by cuddling on the couch. Known as the “world’s worst hunter,” Lola boasts a “perfect failure record” for hunting squirrels and rabbits.

Safety Pioneers and Global Connectors

Guido and Sophie's professional journey is as fascinating as their family life. They are the driving forces behind several brands of personal safety equipment, ranging from motorcycle protective gear to pilot helmets for the US Air Force. With a story that began almost 35 years ago, the Rietdyks have grown their business globally, meeting challenges head-on and considering their employees as an extension of their family. Best of all, being all over the world in many interesting industries makes for “zero dull days.”

Shared Passions and Community Engagement

Beyond their professional endeavors, the Rietdyks like to pursue their pastimes. Sophie enjoys golfing, skiing, hiking, and the art of entertaining, while Guido finds joy in driving fast cars, flying warbird airplanes, golfing, and embarking on car rallies. Their shared love for good wine and annual trips to France for golf and local delights further enhance their rich tapestry of experiences.

Guido's longstanding involvement with the Cancer Support Community showcases the family's commitment to giving back to the community. The Rietdyks have become integral members of the Rolling Hills community, forming close friendships and actively participating in various local events, from morning hikes to golf outings.

“We’d prefer to sit with friends toasting with a good glass than to sit on the couch to watch TV – something we hardly ever do.  As members of PVGC we’re also keen on spending time with our friends there, on the course, in the bar or in the dining room,” they share.

A Legacy of Connection

Having grown up in Europe and arriving in Rolling Hills in the mid-eighties, the Rietdyks are the first generation of new residents in the Palos Verdes/Rolling Hills community. They marvel at the enduring connections within the community, hoping their children will relish the warmth and benefits of knowing everyone. As they reflect on their experiences, the Rietdyk family affirms, "We've seen the world, and there’s no place like Palos Verdes/Rolling Hills – that’s for certain!"

So, the next time you find yourself strolling through Rolling Hills, don't hesitate to say hello to the Rietdyk family. Their door is always open, and within their home, you'll discover a welcoming blend of European elegance, familial warmth, and the joy of community living.
