Thoughts from a Mom
What are your children’s names and ages?
My children are Walker Lee (2 years old) and Ramsey Lewis (though he’s not pictured here, he's with me in my belly at the moment and coming soon).

What has surprised you most about being a mother?
The most surprising part of motherhood has been discovering a whole new depth of love. Before having children, I thought I understood love, but holding my child for the first time was like a floodgate opened. There’s this fierce protectiveness, but also a soft, almost fragile tenderness. It’s a love so deep, so transformative, that it truly changes everything. It changes you.

What do you love most about being a mom?
Motherhood has given me this incredible, unexpected drive that’s unlike anything I’ve felt before. It’s not about personal accolades or achievements anymore—it’s about creating a better future for my sons. Every challenge I face, every goal I accomplish, it feels less like a personal victory and more like a win for them. There’s a powerful, motivating force behind everything I do now, knowing it impacts their lives. It’s the most fulfilling kind of drive I’ve ever experienced.

What advice do you have for other, maybe new, mothers? Alternatively, what advice do you plan to give your child if he decides to become a parent?
My advice? Step away from the noise. Put down the phone and close the endless tabs on articles telling you what you should be doing. Instead, trust your gut. Your instinct is your greatest ally—it knows your baby better than any expert or algorithm ever could. Listen to it, because it's usually right.

What is the most valuable lesson you learned from your own mother?
The most important lesson my mom taught me wasn’t some grand philosophy—it was the value of the small moments. She had this beautiful way of finding joy in the everyday: dancing on the coffee table, cuddling up with a cozy blanket for a movie, and celebrating the little things that so often slip by unnoticed. Now, as a mom myself, I understand just how precious those moments really are.

Anything else you'd like to share about your mom, or about being a good mother?
Watching my mom, Lori Wheeler, with Walker is pure magic. He absolutely adores her, and their adventures together at our barn are unforgettable. With our horses, Gunner and Elvis, Walker becomes this little cowboy, and my mom is always by his side, fully immersed in his world. He’ll be bossing us around saying “Lala! Hat! Boots!” and she’ll always be the first one ready to go!
