Meet Sunny

How long has your family lived in the neighborhood? What do you like most about living here?
We moved to Rolling Hills in November of 2020 and rescued Sunny in December of 2020. We love living here because we have such a beautiful neighborhood, fun horse trails, and great neighbors!

What's your pet's name and breed / type? Please share any interesting background about his breed:
His name is Sunny. He is a rescue and we did the DNA test on him to check what breeds he is -- turns out he is not golden retriever at all (which was stated on his rescue ad). He is 17% Rottweiler, 16% Collie (where he gets his fawn color), 11% German Shepherd, 9% Chinese Crested, 6% Staffordshire Bull Terrier, 6% American Eskimo Dog, 6% Plott Hound, 6% Italian Greyhound, 5% Pekingese, 4% Shih Tzu, 4% Jindo, 3% Boykin Spaniel, 2% Yorkshire Terrier, 2% Eurasier, 2% Bulgarian Shepherd, 1% Azawakh!

When and how did your pet come to join your family?
We wanted to find a golden retriever or golden mix from a rescue, so we searched online for places that were rescuing those types of dogs. When we found Sunny, we applied and were chosen out of 40 families that were interested. After they accepted us, we drove out to Hemet, CA, to the rescue house (they bring dogs from the streets of Mexico and get them ready for families).

Is there a story behind your pet’s name? How did you and your family come up with it?
Well, we had other names in mind for him, but our daughter LOVED the name that he was given at the rescue, so we decided to keep his name since it fit his color and "sunny" disposition so well.

What is one trait or behavior that makes him stand out from the rest?
He is a great guard dog, but is also so loving to our family.

Does your pet have any unique talents or tricks?
He does a great sing-a-long "rooooo roooo rooo" with my daughter and son whenever they play their harmonicas. He also is great at dancing on two hind legs.

Does your pet have any favorite toys or treats?

He loves his little goose stuffy and cleans his teeth naturally by chewing on his favorite, large ostrich bone.

Tell us about your favorite memory with your pet.
When we first brought him home, he used to bury things all the time in the yard (he still does this with his favorite bone). When we looked outside one day, he was up on one of our plant pots trying to bury a toy in it!

Where does your pet love to hang out in the neighborhood?
We take family walks all the time on Bowie Road and also he loves to go on "ruck hikes" with his dad.
