Sip & Shop

Lisa VanNortwick with her Lesal Upcycle Treasures designs

“Spring is the time of plans and projects.” -from Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

The beauty of Spring is all around us in Rolling Hills and the Women’s Community Club of Rolling Hills (WCCRH) has been busy:  discussing community matters at our monthly meetings, planning events and projects, and fostering community spirit everywhere we go.   We are always on the lookout for new adventures to share with residents.

On Thursday March 20 we hosted our first ever Sip and Shop experience in Lunada Bay, at Annie’s Boutique. We had a great time shopping and meeting new friends while enjoying a tasty happy hour with charcuterie from the Lunada Market & Deli.… and the weather was our perfect partner.

Anne Banken, the “Annie” of Annie’s Boutique, is not only an active contributor to the PVE community but is also a Palos Verdes native. Anne grew up in Malaga Cove, growing her roots in the PVE schools and spending her free time down at Rat Beach with friends. Anne was in school when she began working as a sales associate for Max’s Boutique, the previous retailer on Yarmouth Road in Lunada Bay.  In 2008, she decided to buy the boutique, building her own vision from the ground up. Today, 17 years later, Annie’s is a hub for local, handcrafted wares and women’s fashion, as well as social gatherings and fundraising events.

Dani Paquin, owner of Agapantha Jewelry was also on hand with thoughtfully designed necklaces, charms, rings and even permanent jewelry. Hand-crafted in Los Angeles, there were plenty of gorgeous choices on display. You can find out more about her lovely creations at agapantha.com.

Lisa Van Nortwick of Lesal Upcycled Treasures, long time RH resident and WCCRH member, uses her background in painting, French textiles and her own former well-known line of handpainted ceramics to create one-of-a-kind pieces. Her jackets and vests are so unique! The core of her line is M-65 liner jackets, which were used in the US Military beginning in 1965. Other styles are made with thrifted denim. Lisa combines unique vintage trims, some with beads, and colorful tapestries from Europe to create very special wearable art. Her horsey designs are perfect gifts for any horse-lover and other designs include the Provence bee, university themes, country western aesthetics and amazing dogs. They are also customizable to your individual interests! Check out her creations on Instagram @Lesalupcycledtreasures.
