Located in the scenic neighborhood of Rolling Hills, this beautiful home has been a treasured part of Arun’s life for 25 years. With its breathtaking views, unique architecture, and welcoming ambiance, it's no surprise that he has made it his sanctuary. Arun, a retired aerospace engineer, professor, and businessman, recently shared some details about his home and the many things that make it special.
Arun has called Rolling Hills home since 1999, making it a significant part of his life for 25 years. “I love the surroundings, the greenery, the natural preservation, and the 360-degree views,” Arun says. The area offers so much more than beautiful vistas. There’s access to trails, tennis courts, pickleball courts, a large two-acre flat lot, shopping, public transportation, beaches, and barns. "The friendliness of the neighbors and the opportunity to mingle make it a special place. It’s a safe and secure neighborhood, which we love," Arun adds.
The home spans about 5,000 square feet and includes 5 bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms. As an empty nester, Arun now enjoys living alone and is contemplating downsizing.
When asked about his favorite room, Arun mentions that he enjoys every room for the stunning views they offer. However, the family room stands out as his go-to space for relaxation and fun. "I spend most of my time in the family room playing ping pong with friends and watching movies. It’s adjacent to the kitchen, living room, and even opens to the swimming pool and basketball court areas," Arun explains.
The home was designed by the renowned architect Cliff May, and Arun describes the style as cozy, user-friendly, and full of ambiance. He enjoys the integration of nature within the design, with fruit trees such as oranges, mangoes, and guavas around the property. The location also provides easy access to shopping, beaches, and entertainment.
One of the standout design elements of the house is the breezeway that links the main house to the guest house and garage. This breezeway, designed by Cliff May, serves as a convenient space where Arun can charge his electric vehicle.
The home’s large windows allow for an abundance of natural sunlight, creating a soothing and peaceful environment throughout the day. Arun emphasizes that the house is perfect for large gatherings of family and friends, with views of the Hollywood sign, multiple fireworks displays on Independence Day, and even the exciting sight of aircrafts landing at night. In the winter, the view of the snow-capped mountains is a mesmerizing sight, and the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles can be observed from the comfort of his home.
According to Arun, the design and decorating process was a smooth one, thanks to the supportive City staff and community association. "We had no issues getting permits and approvals, ensuring the house fit the ambiance," Arun notes. In fact, they were even approved to build a 2-bedroom, 2-bath accessory dwelling unit (ADU) on the property.
When Arun and his family first purchased the house, they completely rebuilt it to create a space that felt cozy, welcoming, and perfect for entertaining. Over the years, the home has hosted numerous memorable gatherings, including weddings, presidential fundraisers, and birthday parties.
This home holds historical significance—it was the first house built on the iconic Buggy Whip Dr. by the President of Southern California Edison. The utilities along the street are underground, adding to the unique charm of the area.
Arun’s Rolling Hills home is a reflection of his passion for great design, natural beauty, and community. It’s a place where he has spent years making memories, hosting gatherings, and enjoying the views and peacefulness that the area offers.
With its rich history, picturesque setting, and inviting atmosphere, this home is truly one-of-a-kind.
