Spring Egg Hunt
Well, it was a windy one!!
On Sunday, March 24th, The Women’s Community Club of Rolling Hills, along with the Rolling Hills Community Association, hosted great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to tasty food, a spirited egg hunt, a fun 50/50 raffle, and a fabulous magic show performed by entertainer extraordinaire, Arty Loon. Although we feared the blustery weather would keep residents home, we were thrilled to welcome approximately 380 people to our first community event of 2024.
After so much rain in the past weeks, we were lucky to have a sunny, albeit VERY windy day, as Peter Cottontail & Mopsy hopped into Rolling Hills and the beloved story of Peter Rabbit came to life on the sprawling front lawn at the beautiful home on Crest Road. Since Rolling Hills does not have a community room, we are dependent on the generosity of residents, in this case the Occhipintis, who have graciously allowed us to hold our annual Egg Hunt at their home for many years. We are also so thankful to our two Egg Hunt Chairs, Brittany Gardner, and Kristen Kahl-Reno, who planned for several months to ensure a fun day for all.
We were so pleased to have both Peter Rabbit and Mopsy there to provide a cute backdrop for parents to snap photos with their children. Extra thanks to Dr. Peter Parsa who was on hand to take photos of all of the special moments!
The egg hunt began at 1:30 PM. It was great fun to watch the littlest children shake the eggs and then dance down the grass in search of more! Or the 9-year-olds who sprinted across the grass at record speed. Although we had a total of 2100 eggs, across all the age groups, the eggs were found in a flash!
Thank you to all of the WCCRH lovely ladies, along with their sons and husbands, who provided the refreshments and volunteered for this special event. It was a team effort all around with many hands making the work easier. The array of food was impressive, all donated by WCCRH members. This year, we added a hot chocolate bar and the little ones were able to make their own treats with marshmallows, sprinkles, and candy canes. We had Arty Loon perform for us for the second time this year and the children and adults alike were captivated by his magic, puppetry, and joke-telling. We also had a bubble station and a temporary tattoo table for the kids.
A special thanks to the young men and women who provided service hours to our group (we had volunteers from both the 4H Club and residents' children/grandchildren)! Thank you to Arty Beckler and the crew for delivering and picking up tables, chairs, and supplies for the event. Thank you to both Piper Darrell and Chase Thomas for their special role at the Egg Hunt!
For the second time at our Spring Party, we held a successful 50/50 raffle (50% goes to the Women's Club and 50% goes to the raffle winner)! Bill Willis was chosen as the lucky winner of the raffle and generously donated his portion back to the Women's Club! Thank you Bill for your kindness and support. This money will go toward planning more fun events like this one.
This year, we incorporated a few eco-friendly items into our day. We used earth-friendly paper goods; we asked guests to bring their own water bottles and had water dispensers instead of passing out plastic water bottles; and we encouraged guests if they weren't going to reuse their plastic eggs, to turn them in at the end of the hunt so we can use them again next year! If you have any extras that you would like to donate, please contact Kristen at 310-529-7501, and she can arrange a pickup.
A big thanks to all of our guests for coming! We hope everyone had a great time and stayed warm!
