Swinging Through the Highs and Holes-in-One

Meet Round Hill’s Golfer of the Month, Alan Miegel — a man whose game is equal parts heart, humor, and unforgettable stories.

For Alan Miegel, golf has been a constant companion for nearly 28 years — and if you ask him, he jokes that another 28 might finally make him “decent at this game.” What began as a necessity after a college rotator cuff injury ended his baseball career quickly grew into a lifelong passion that has taken him across the country and deep into the heart of the game.
Alan’s golf journey has led him to some of the most iconic courses in the United States, including Pebble Beach, Pinehurst, and The Country Club in Brookline. But one course stands out above the rest: Shaker Hills, just outside Boston. Nestled in the woods and free of surrounding homes, it offers a rare sense of peace and purity that Alan says lets the game speak for itself.
Despite playing remarkable courses nationwide, it’s Round Hill that holds a special place in Alan’s heart. What makes the local course exceptional isn’t just the layout — it’s the people. Alan values the camaraderie of seeing the same group of friends' week after week, especially the familiar Saturday rounds that create lasting friendships and shared memories throughout the year.
When it comes to unforgettable moments, Alan has more than most. One of his most legendary stories happened on his wedding day, when he managed the nearly unthinkable: a hole-in-one on a par 4. Equally memorable, though in a very different way, was last year’s Round Hill Invitational. Over three days, Alan posted scores of 95, 73, and 95 — a perfect snapshot of golf’s unpredictability and the humbling nature of the game. As Alan puts it, it was the same guy each day, but a completely different golfer showed up every time.
Like many seasoned players, Alan’s game has its highs and lows. His biggest challenge — and strength — lies off the tee. When his driver is cooperating, everything seems to fall into place. When it’s not, the round can get ugly quickly. Still, that balance of struggle and success is part of what keeps him coming back.
If Alan could assemble his dream foursome, the lineup would be meaningful and powerful: Tiger Woods, his dad, and his son. It’s a group that reflects both admiration for greatness and appreciation for family — two things that clearly define Alan’s approach to the game.
For those just starting out, Alan offers advice that only experience can teach: avoid big numbers. Smart decisions, steady play, and knowing when to play it safe can make all the difference — on the scorecard and in your enjoyment of the game.
Through triumphs, setbacks, and plenty of laughs along the way, Alan embodies what it means to love golf for life. We’re proud to celebrate him as Round Hill’s Golfer of the Month and look forward to many more Saturday rounds, stories, and maybe even another hole-in-one.
