From Soccer Tots to Standout Forward
A Story of Determination, Teamwork, and Heart
Ellie Menta of Round Hill is the kind of athlete who embodies dedication both on and off the field. A sophomore at Carondelet High School, Ellie plays soccer year-round, competing with Mustang Soccer while also representing Carondelet during the high school season. When summer arrives, she trades her cleats for goggles, swimming recreationally at Round Hill Country Club—proving her love for athletics extends beyond one sport.
Ellie’s soccer journey began almost as soon as she could walk. At just 18 months old, her parents enrolled her in Soccer Tots in San Francisco, and from that moment on, the game captured her heart. Over the years, her passion only deepened, especially after joining a new team where a coach took a special interest in her development. That experience not only sharpened her skills but also taught her the true meaning of teamwork—every player and coach working together toward a shared goal.
What Ellie enjoys most about soccer is seeing the results of hard work pay off. She believes the lessons learned on the field extend far beyond the game itself: perseverance, resilience, and the understanding that challenges can be overcome with effort and determination.
Her proudest achievement perfectly reflects that mindset. Ellie began her competitive career as a goalie, a role she performed well—but her passion was always to play forward. With limited opportunities outside the net, she set a clear goal and worked tirelessly in her backyard, at practice, and during every minute of game time she was given. Through persistence and belief in herself, Ellie earned her place as a full-time forward—an accomplishment that remains her most meaningful victory to date.
Ellie offers thoughtful advice to future athletes: believe in yourself, commit to the work, and expect setbacks along the way. Improvement doesn’t happen without effort, but maintaining a positive attitude and being a great teammate will always lead to growth.
Beyond the wins and goals, soccer has profoundly shaped Ellie’s life through the relationships it has brought her. Teammates have become close friends, and coaches have played a vital role in her personal and athletic growth. Outside of sports, Ellie enjoys traveling, skiing, and spending quality time with her family.
With her drive, humility, and love for the game, Ellie Menta is a shining example of what it means to be an Athlete of the Month—proof that determination and teamwork can turn dreams into reality.
