Royal Oaks Country Club Ladies Association

Royal Oaks Ladies Association’s Happy Hours on the last Wednesday of the month continue to be fun filled friendship fostering festivities. Kindel Burton and Trish Maley hosted our May Petals & Pastels Happy Hour. The Fleur de Lis room was filled with pretty ladies dressed in soft pastels and florals, complimenting the beautiful springtime decorations. While sipping on the evenings Signature Drink selections of Blushing Garden Spritz and Lavender Lemon Fizz the ladies enjoyed wedge salad skewers, candied bacon deviled eggs, Korean BBQ meatballs, and petite pastries prepared by Chef and his team. Brooke Tillemans and her team planned the June Happy Hour with a Mumu’s and Margaritastheme. More on that in the next issue.

We are happy to welcome our newest members, Victoria Genter, Jennifer Drake and Sandy Walker, while we bid a fond farewell to our member, Christina Yim. Christina’s warm smile and kind heart will surely be missed. As Christina’s family relocates to Seoul, South Korea, we wish them all the best in their futures.

Shari Poteet and her team executed an amazing number of activities in recent months for many to enjoy with lots more already in the planning phase for the near future. Shauna Steffan will be organizing an all day vendors showcase in September and Pattie Mennes is planning a relaxing day at Brookwood in late fall.

On April 21st, “Painting With A Twist” was lots of fun for a group of 18. Hidden artistic talents came to the forefront while the ladies painted, sipped and enjoyed each other’s company. On May 15th, 18 ladies and guests participated in a Japanese themed cooking class at Sur La Table. The room was filled with lots of laughter and wonderful aromas. Then on May 20th, thirty ladies gathered in the Ladies Lounge for a terrific “Your Best Hair Ever” presentation by ROCCLA member Marianne Innes. Marianne so kindly and efficiently shared her expertise of her 40 years in the hair care industry. She even gave out lots of prizes and samples. A group of 30 enjoyed “Summertime Sips”, a wine tasting event at Total Wine in late June. On Sunday afternoon, July 19th, Mary Ann Hammerle planned a trip to the Music Box Theater for the Feeling Groovy performance.

This chronological rundown of ongoing activities, along with contact information of those dedicated women chairing each of those committees to provide a wide range of activities and special events, is intended to keep us informed. Please go to the Club App for further information and always feel free to reach out to the Committee Chairs with questions and suggestions.

On the last Wednesday of each month, Book Club meets at 4pm in the Ladies Lounge just prior to Happy Hour. Our Royal Bookies Co-Chairs are Ana Correa (amrcor@yahoo.com) and Julie Weishar (jweishar@comcast.net). Different volunteers lead in the discussion of the monthly selection. Missie and Gerrie encourage you to join in even if you have never played before. It’s an easy game to learn and most of the ladies stay to enjoy lunch and conversation together after. Hop on board to join in the fun.

Thursday afternoons at 1pm you will find the MahJongg ladies in the Ladies Lounge. Trish Maley(trishmaley@yahoo.com) and Kindel Burton (kindelvc@gmail.com) are our amazing mother/daughter Co-Chairs. Trish and Kindel keep everyone on track via weekly emails and texts. As seen in last months issue of Stroll, MahJongg Madness has taken over the Ladies Lounge as the attendance grows and friendships blossom. If you already know how to play, please come join the fun. Even if you don’t yet know how to play, pop on in and see what it’s all about. Contact Kindel or Trisha if you would like information on lessons to learn to play MahJongg.

The Royal Recipe Ladies gather once a month as different hostesses welcome the number of ladies they feel comfortable accommodating on a day that fits their schedule, most often on the third Thursday of the month. Aileen Hansen (aileen913@yahoo.com) continues to efficiently organize the monthly theme of what each woman prepares for lunch and brings to share in the spirit of “Food, Friendship and Fun”. Shari Poteet hosted the Royal Recipe Ladies for an Argentinian luncheon on May 29th. The Royal Recipe Ladies 3rd Annual Cookbook Exchange and Luncheon on June 17th took place in the Ladies Lounge with about 20 ladies participating. Photos will appear in the next issue.

Eighteen ladies participated in Painting with a Twist. What fun to see how many budding artists we have in our midst.

The Krewe de Bonne Femmes is a vibrant evening and weekend activities group co-chaired by Jody Sydow(Jody@tlccorporates.com) and Ryland Davis (rylandhouston@gmail.com) Jody and Ryland continue to plan fun wine education classes, as well as other evening or weekend activities.

To keep up to date on Happy Hours, regular weekly activities and games, be sure to check out the Club App. To sign up, open the App, go to Quick Links at the bottom of the page, click on Upcoming Events, and then rsvp for the events you plan to attend. You are sure to find regular updates as the ROCCLA board and committees continue to come up with new and interesting things to do.

Another helpful way of staying up to date is through a WhatsAppChat specifically for the Ladies Association to be able to send out reminders of our many activities. You join this (Chat) group via the Club App by clicking on “Stay Connected”, which you access from the lower left Menu tab. Scroll down to “Member Chat” under Ladies Association.

Should you need to cancel your reservation, please do so by noon on the day of any ROCCLA event to avoid the Ladies Association having to bill your account $10 to help offset what the club bills us for no shows. This does not apply to excursions with tickets, as those tickets must be paid for in advance and will indicate a date of cancellation. If you have any questions about our regularly scheduled last Wednesday of the month Happy Hour, please contact Lynn Sperry (lynn@lynnsperry.net) or Gigi Scott (gigiscott1@me.com)

If you are not already a member of the Royal Oaks Ladies Association (ROCCLA), but are a member of Royal Oaks Country Club at any level, please contact one of the board members or Julie Banda, Club Membership Director (JBanda@royaloakscc.com), or Member Relations Assistant, Harper Upton-Munro (hmunro@royaloakscc.com) to receive a form to sign up! The current annual fee of $75 includes access to our regular weekly activities, games, and all Happy Hour events.  Additional activities may require separate fees, which will be posted in advance.

We look forward to seeing you at our future events.
