From Pebble Beach to Ruby Hill: A Life Well Played
Patricia Kang’s journey through golf, family, friendships, and unforgettable fairways
For Patricia Kang, golf has never been just a game—it’s been a lifelong thread weaving together family, travel, competition, and connection. A longtime Ruby Hill resident, Patricia first picked up the game nearly 30 years ago, inspired by her parents’ love of golf and cherished childhood memories spent at the driving range, playing mini golf, and watching the Masters together on TV. While she’s always enjoyed the sport, the last five years have marked a renewed focus on her game—one that she’s excited to deepen even more as she looks ahead to becoming an empty nester.
Golf has also played a starring role in Patricia’s love story. She and her husband, Young, bonded over golf dates while in college in Rochester, New York—where they met and married. Their shared passion even made its way into their wedding day, with golf balls as favors for guests. Today, that love of the game continues through family rounds, friendships, and the many fun couples and WGCRH events that make Ruby Hill such a vibrant golf community.
Over the years, Patricia has teed it up at some of the most iconic courses in the world, including Pebble Beach, Princeville Makai, Poipu Bay, Ko Olina, Olympic Club, Cabo Del Sol, Spyglass Hill, CordeValle, Mauna Kea, and The Links at Spanish Bay—just to name a few. Annual anniversary golf trips are a cherished tradition, and whenever the Kangs travel, they make it a point to squeeze in a round. Among all these incredible experiences, Pebble Beach holds the top spot in her heart. Playing there as a family for their 15th anniversary—and managing to all play together as a five-some—made it truly unforgettable.
Closer to home, Ruby Hill is especially meaningful to Patricia and her family. Since moving there in 2008, the course has been central to their lives. All three of her children grew up on the fairways, attended summer golf camps, played in parent-child tournaments, and took lessons from Head Pro Nigel Rouse. During the pandemic, the course became a welcome constant whenever tee times were available. Patricia’s oldest daughter, Taylor, went on to play college golf at Carleton College, and her son, Matthew, will follow in her footsteps when he begins playing there in fall 2026. While her daughter Natalie didn’t pursue golf at the collegiate level, the skills and confidence gained through the game have helped her immensely in interviews, employment, and networking.
Patricia’s Ruby Hill memories are filled with highlights—from winning her flight in the Member-Guest with Ellie Miller in 2012, to claiming flight victories in the Member-Member with Claire Logan in 2015, and ultimately winning Overall Member-Member with Sara Pak in 2023. One particularly memorable moment? Meeting Klay Thompson—and watching her husband play a round with Steph Curry—then chatting with him as a family at the turn.
When it comes to her game, Patricia is refreshingly honest. Chipping is her biggest weakness (mostly because she doesn’t practice it enough), but that has led to a surprising strength: putting from off the green, which has become a reliable weapon. If she could choose any dream foursome, she’d play alongside Minjee Lee, Lydia Ko, and Annika Sörenstam—three women she admires for their dominance, influence, and impact on women’s golf.
Her advice to new golfers perfectly reflects her outlook on the game: be patient, have fun, learn etiquette, bring a good attitude, give yourself grace, and remember that golf is about far more than competition. It’s about connections, memories, soaking in the scenery—and, of course, not forgetting the fashion.
For Patricia Kang, golf is a lifelong journey, and every round—whether at Pebble Beach or right here at Ruby Hill—is another chapter worth savoring.
